Job Summary

The Department of Pathology at UCSF aims to achieve the highest standards in patient care, research and education. The department provides diagnostic pathology services in a wide variety of subspecialties with highly trained subspecialists who are recognized nationally and internationally for their expertise. The department’s research programs are diverse and interface with a wealth of basic and translational research programs that are a hallmark of UCSF. Our educational programs include a research-intensive academic residency program and fellowships in cytopathology, dermatopathology, gastrointestinal and liver pathology, gynecologic pathology, neuropathology and surgical pathology.

The Staff Research Associate will be part of a major project discovering mechanisms of tumor resistance to immunotherapy, including CAR T cells and checkpoint blockade, in various types of cancer.

To this end, incumbent will perform mouse work (tumor cell and CAR T cells injections, monitoring, harvests), multi-parameter flow and mass cytometry (CyTOF), fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS), multiplexed fluorescence microscopy and single-cell RNA sequencing; prepare RNA and DNA; perform PCR, weaning, tail biopsy, and blood processing; maintain records of mice; and perform other duties as assigned. Expected to work well as part of a team and have enthusiasm for the practice of science.

Required Qualifications

  • One year experience in either oncology, immunology, or molecular biology
  • BA/BS in a related science and one or more years of recent, directly related work experience, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position; and/or equivalent experience/training

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with advanced cytometry systems (e.g. CyTOF and multiparametric flow cytometry)
  • Some experience in bioinformatics and/or programming language
