The Lynch lab is seeking a Research Assistant to join the team and contribute to new and ongoing projects and to management of the laboratory. The Lynch lab is focused on human microbiome research, with a particular interest in accelerating discovery and translation in the fields of early life microbiome and therapeutic development. The lab supports multiple collaborative human microbiome research with collaborators across the country.
Candidates will be responsible for managing multiple large-scale human microbiome research projects in parallel, in addition to performing lab management tasks such as ordering, instrument maintenance and renewal of animal and biosafety approvals. The Research Assistant will be responsible for maintaining and updating project management software for multiple studies, as well as sample cataloging and processing, sequence data generation, and contributing to data analyses, manuscript, and report generation. The Research Assistant will work closely with other team members and project investigators to facilitate timely project progress. Key duties are summarized below.
Sample receipt and cataloging: Receive and cross-check barcoded samples from multiple studies in parallel. Perform biospecimen sub-sampling. Utilize and weekly update project management software. Maintain and electronic lab notebook. Coordinate with central site repositories. Requires exceptional organizational skills.
Genomic data generation: High-throughput nucleic acid (DNA and RNA) extraction and quantification. Sequence library preparation. Sequencing (16S rRNA, ITS2, metagenomics). Data analysis.
Lab management: Maintenance of laboratory stocks, fridge and freezer inventories, equipment. Order supplies. Renew laboratory approvals (institutional review board, animal, biosafety etc.).
Lab Description:
The Lynch lab is focused on understanding the role of pathogenic microbiomes in the promotion of chronic inflammatory disease. The lab is housed within the Division of Gastroenterology, in the Department of Medicine and is part of the Benioff Center for Microbiome Medicine (BCMM). The BCMM is home to UCSF's community of over 130 faculty, staff, and trainees dedicated to the integrative human microbiome research. The BCMM provides access to state of art technology hubs, research funds, and educational programming to advance our knowledge of the human microbiome's potential to predict, prevent and treat a wide range of diseases.
Note: This position requires a physical/health screening.
