The SRA will perform basic lab assays including flow cytometry, RNA/DNA isolations, PCR and ELISA assays on various samples from human blood under direct supervision. The SRA will also organize clinical records and enter data into databases and learn how to operate computer programs that read clinical chest CT data. The Staff Research Associate will learn how to interact with volunteer study subjects who are donating the samples. Communication, organization and self-motivation are necessary skills to be successful in this position. Under direct and close supervision, lab bench duties include isolation of RNA using careful technique, performance of quant-PCR and flow cytometry. Computer skills needed include Microsoft office programs (Excel, Powerpoint, Word), comfortable with data entry into online databases. Organization skills include legible and accurate labeling, correct storage of biologic samples and accurate record keeping of sample location in databases. Professional and courteous attitude is required for interacting with volunteer study subjects. After a period of training, the applicant will be expected to work independently on all tasks.
