Position Summary:
 
UCI MIND is an Organized Research Unit focusing on basic and clinical research in the fields of brain aging and cognitive disorders. Our mission is to discover means to improve the lives of people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. UCI MIND is committed to community education with the goals of keeping the community informed of our progress, sharing insights that can help community members reduce their risk for dementia.

 


Under the direction of Dr. Joshua Grill in the Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND), the staff research associate (SRA) will assist in the conduct of several research studies related to the science of recruitment. The mission of the Grill Lab is to 1) Improve Alzhiemer’s disease (AD) clinical trial design, 2) elucidate barriers to AD clinical trial enrollment, 3) better understand AD trial participant retention strategies, and 4) investigate the ethical challenges specific to AD trials. SRA’s in the Grill Lab play an active role in several aspects of behavioral research studies including recruitment, consenting, interviewing, cognitive testing, and transcribing interviews, participate in outreach events as speakers and coordinators, and create and translate recruitment materials as appropriate, and may participate in the analytical and writing process of the research for publication. The SRA will be responsible for conducting in-person (both at the research center and at participants’ homes) and remote research interviews with participants from varied cultural backgrounds. The SRA will collect, translate, transcribe, and enter data. In addition, the SRA will help organize community and university events to promote all studies under UCI MIND and give talks and participate in various outreach events. They will assist in the recruitment and enrollment of participants to various research projects.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $25.64 - $25.64 (Hourly Rate). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $25.64 - $30.59 (Hourly Rate).

Required:
 
  • 1-2 years experience in a similar role preferred.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, biology, psychology, or another related field. 
  • Highly motivated and service-oriented with strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to communicate clearly and tactfully with a broad variety of people both verbally and in writing. 
  • Proven ability to function effectively as a team member and follow detailed directions. 
  • Skill to operate Macintosh and PC platform, and skill to use Microsoft suite and Adobe Acrobat. 
  • Skill in maintaining a well-organized and professional workplace 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in different stages of development at the same time.
     

Preferred:
 
  • Ability to speak publicly to large audiences about brain health and neurodegenerative diseases. 
  • Experience working in human research and interview based observational studies 
  • Fluency in English and one of the following languages: Spanish, Mandarin or Korean Experience in REDCap and CanvaPro Experience operating video conferencing and social media platforms 
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel by car to various locations around Orange County
