  • JOB DUTIES

Description

The Semel Institute is seeking a full time Staff Research Associate I to complete the following duties: A. Assist with program evaluation activities and other research activities 40% 1. Conduct literature reviews and generate summaries of lit searches 2. Monitor several national organizations’ websites and list servs to identify new material/reports/curriculum/tool kits generated about the opioid epidemic, rising trends in fentanyl and stimulant use, impact on various special populations such a youth and tribal communities, and persons currently unhoused 3. Assist in scheduling and transcribing of key informant interviews, and other required research/evaluation support activities. 4. Assist in the development and management of web-based surveys (e.g. on Qualtrics or Survey Monkey) 5. Assist to provide and issue incentives/vouchers to participants who engage in the evaluation activities. 6. Maintain files/records related to review status and data collection. 7. Observe project protocols to ensure uniform and appropriate completion of tasks. 8. Maintain confidentiality of evaluation participant data and interactions. B. Assist with data entry, creation of tracking database, other computer tasks, and coding quality control efforts (30%) 1. Assist with the design and provide feedback on data capture tools. 2. Assist with data entry of surveys and interviews and maintaining files related to data entry. 3. Review completed interviews for internal logic, errors, and missing information. 4. Code open-ended questions using previously developed codes. 5. Assist in identifying and correcting data errors. C. Assist with report preparation and submission (15%) 1. Assist with compiling information from monthly/quarterly data collection into meeting agendas for ongoing discussion toward reporting. 2. Assist with compiling information and documents to develop quarterly reports or briefs for online dissemination. 3. Assist with supervision/guidance in basic data analysis using SPSS or other statistical software 4. Prepare tables, figures, PowerPoint presentations, etc. 5. Assist with report writing, grant writing, manuscript writing 6. Assist with meeting and conference planning D. Assist with administrative support, and miscellaneous (15%) 1. Attend and contribute to regular project meetings 2. Create agendas and conducting notetaking where needed. 3. Maintain orderly and accurate files and project documentation 4. Assist in other research tasks as needed 5. Assist in general day-to-day tasks, including answering phones, typing correspondence, word processing, creating presentations in powerpoint, maintaining inventory of supplies and evaluation forms, taking and distributing meeting minutes, filing, submitting proposals and manuscripts for review, other miscellaneous office support as needed by the PI. Pay Range: $24.88 – $29.67 hourly



  • JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications

1. Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required. 2. Knowledge of substance use disorder (SUD) treatment (e.g. experience as an SUD client, counselor, researcher, etc.) and ability to work with program administrators in the field is preferred. 3. Willingness and ability to maintain confidentiality of evaluation participants interviewed is required. 4. Organizational skills with strong attention to detail is required to maintain records and coordinate other tasks. 5. Demonstrated knowledge of personal computers and relevant software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and is required. 6. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally, and in writing, with participants, staff, and supervisors is required. 7. Ability to work with busy providers to complete evaluation tasks is required. 8. Ability to question participants about sensitive behavioral issues, including drug use and criminal behavior, and frequency of high-risk sex behaviors is required. 9. Experience in data collection with similar populations is required. 10. Familiarity with Atlas.ti and Filemaker Pro is preferred. 11. Familiarity with Qualtrics or Survey Monkey, or similar survey platform is required. 12. Ability to conduct statistical analysis is strongly preferred. 13. Familiarity with UCLA reimbursement and travel procedures is preferred. 14. Willingness to work evenings and weekends is required. 15. Ability to travel (able to fly, rent and drive a car, stay overnight when needed) is required. 16. Ability to think logically is required. 17. Skill in simple mathematics is required. 18. Ability to work productively from home temporarily while University COVID-19 guidance requires it 19. When University COVID-19 guidance allows, reporting to work to our Santa Monica Blvd office and following safety procedures (which may include but are not limited to wearing a mask, social distancing, and temperature checks) are required.
