Job Summary

The Staff Research Associate I/II (SRA I/II) will be working in the Laboratory for Genomic Research (LGR) which is a new functional genomics center in which scientists use CRISPR/Cas9-based functional genomics tools to decipher biological functions of genes, identifying new drug targets and developing new technologies that will advance discovery in both academia and industry. In this position, he/she will be an integral member of a research team that is developing and using CRISPR-Cas functionalities and screens in human cell models to investigate the underlying causes of human disease biology and identify potential drug targets. The responsibilities can include culturing and maintaining human cell culture lines, performing flow cytometry and microscopy, performing standard molecular biology techniques, and performing basic statistical calculations.

Alternatively, the responsibilities can include extensive molecular biology work to develop new methods of sequencing sample preparation and/or supporting enabling technologies including scRNA-seq, high content imaging, and robotic-enabled pooled and arrayed screening.  Some time will be spent performing literature reviews and attending lab meetings/journal club meetings. Multiple openings are available.

Department Description

LABORATORY FOR GENOMIC RESEARCH
The Laboratory for Genomic Research (LGR) is a new functional genomics center on the UCSF Mission Bay campus. The LGR represents a novel hybrid model that brings together researchers from UC Berkeley, UC San Francisco, and GlaxoSmithKline under a single roof working on projects both together and independently.

The outputs of those research projects will be focused on deciphering biological functions of genes, identifying new drug targets and developing new technologies that will advance discovery in both academia and industry. The new laboratory will also be a resource for investigators at both UC campuses who will be able to access and use the LGR to answer their own biological and biomedical questions. At this time, we are beginning the staffing needed to fill several roles.

BIOCHEMISTRY & BIOPHYSICS
The Department of Biochemistry & Biophysics is a large teaching and research department within the School of Medicine (SOM).
