Under supervision of the Animal Resources Manager, provide technical and paraveterinary services. Major duties include assisting in Breeding Colony Management, and providing veterinary support services. Salary: $25.75 – $30.71 hourly

  JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  

Required * Ability to communicate professionally and courteously on the phone, in person and by email to a variety of people. * Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with faculty and staff that have varying degrees of veterinary medical training. * Ability to complete tasks in an orderly and timely fashion. * Ability to use or learn full capability of word processing software, e-mail, spreadsheets, the internet and other computer programs. * Ability to work accurately and with detail. * Ability to work as part of a team. * Skill in writing clear and concise correspondence. * Ability to euthanize rats and mice using CO2 chambers. Must be able to follow the procedures for euthanasia including the use of the CO2 chamber, as well as be able to ascertain that death has occurred. Knowledge of appropriate labeling and disposal of the animals euthanized, including bio-hazardous animals. * Knowledge of and ability to accurately follow all SOPs associated with a GLP study, including required study procedures and GLP documentation procedures. * Knowledge of and the ability to apply the concept of contamination control practices including engineering, administrative, and procedural controls for the containment of pathogens, including disinfection, and waste handling methods appropriate for work in biocontainment animal facilities up to BSL2 level with BSL3 practices.
