Job Summary

The Staff Research Associate 1 role as a Quality Control technician contributes to the Good Manufacturing Practice Lab objectives by providing operational support to the manufacturing and assessment of clinical gene, cellular, and pharmaceutical products. This role involves the quality control of inventory and supplies, research equipment, environment and the incorporation of new standard operational procedures and techniques while ensuring rigorous quality control and quality assurance standards. These responsibilities are carried out within a GMP Facility.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1+ year lab experience in the workplace or in a college setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or a related field.
  • GMP facility and operations experience
  • Experience working as a quality control technician
  • Inventory handling experience
  • Experience with audits
  • Experience working in a cell manufacturing environment
  • Experience with excel spreadsheets and generation of documentation with MS Word and Adobe products.

Department Description

The purpose of the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Facility is to manufacture clinical grade stem cell and other cellular therapy products, gene therapy products, pharmaceutical products, and formulations for novel or routine patient treatments and clinical trials, and to perform scholarly research and development when appropriate. These objectives are to be met within the limits of resources available with emphasis on cost effectiveness and innovation.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be willing to work variable shifts, rotating weekends with other staff, and take call as needed on nights, weekends and holidays to ensure the Good Manufacturing Practice Facility is compliant with Federal law (21CFR 210 and 211), and to work overtime within UCDH Policy and Procedure.
  • Needs to be able to adjust to a flexible work schedule as work in the GMP facility can vary greatly.
  • Needs to be able to work in full body suit and with face mask and gloves for hours in a controlled environment, such as a clean room (GMP) facility.
  • Needs to be able to work under constant supervision and in a strictly regulated environment under Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Adheres to no smoking, dress code, tardiness, telephone and safety policies and protocols and works independently occasionally as the only employee (e.g.: equipment and facility monitoring on weekends holidays, etc).
  • Performs work in a sterile tissue culture work environment.

Special Requirements

  • This position is a critical position and subject to a background check and drug screen. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history, identity checks and drug screen.
  • As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California Policy on Vaccination Programs , as may be amended or revised from time to time.  Federal, state, or local public health directives may impose additional requirements.
