POSITION OBJECTIVE

Working under limited supervision, the Staff Registered Nurse 2 will be responsible for providing age specific, developmentally appropriate nursing services and education to students, faculty, and staff accessing care at University Health and Counseling Services (UHCS).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Serve as lead nurse in Expedited Clinic at Health Services, providing immunizations and laboratory support to the clinic. Ensure all vaccine supplies are stored properly by maintaining temperature logs. Oversee logistics for mass immunization and testing events (ex. Influenza, COVID, STI testing, TB testing, etc.) to include ordering necessary vaccines and supplies, securing space, collaborating with school of nursing for outreach staffing, and data reporting. (30%)
  • Provide direct nursing care to patients in all clinical settings with a specific focus on expedited clinics including immunizations and labs required for occupational health or health science students. Assess patient needs, provide appropriate interventions, document all clinical activities promptly in the electronic health record and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. Provide recommendations for clinical operations, administrative, and nursing procedures. Manage on-call reports and nurse task lists. (30%)
  • Participate in quality improvement activities of the Health Service, including systems to assure prompt filing of medical information in the patient chart (lab test results, consultation reports, immunization history). Actively participate in any training suggested for staff, including continuing education sessions and quality improvement activities. Design and implement ongoing immunization training and resources for medical staff. (10%)
  • Lead a care management, quality improvement project for a defined area within the Health Service. Specifically, manage the immunization compliance data collection program for students. (15%)

    NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Act as a liaison between University Health and Counseling Services and the Cuyahoga County Board of Health and the Ohio Board of Health for facilitating resources that can be utilized for Case Western Reserve University students and stay up to date on best practices for reporting illnesses and immunizations to the county and state. (5%)
  • Participate in wellness, health promotion and outreach programs to promote campus wide health and wellness initiatives. (5%)

    CONTACTS

    Department: Frequent contact with Director Clinical Operations, Senior Director of Operations, Wellness Manager and University Health and Counseling Services clinical and departmental staff to work collaboratively in an integrated model.

    University: Regular contact with university partners to develop initiatives.

    External: Regular contact with Cuyahoga County Board of Health and Ohio Department of Health for scheduling programming and reporting compliance.

    Students: Frequent and direct contact with students in the clinical setting.

     

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

    No supervisory responsibility.

     

    REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Possess clinical nursing experience in direct patient care.
  • Commitment to and appreciation of working with diverse groups of individuals, including age, race, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic and educational background, and ability.
  • Ability to provide age-appropriate care for the population(s) served. Identify and respond effectively to the unique needs of each population.

  • Experience using an electronic health record to document all clinical encounters. Maintain accurate and complete records, document patient condition, active problems, treatments, medication, and outcomes promptly.
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures of the university and keep up with new trends in nursing safety and compliance with national standards for safe care.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage projects and programs.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education/Experience/Licensing: RN license in the State of Ohio. Bachelor’s degree (BSN) and 3 years of experience OR Associate’s degree (ADN) and 7 years of experience OR High School education and 11 years of experience required.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    The employee will be exposed to bloodborne pathogens. Personal protective equipment (gloves, masks, eye protection) will be provided. May be required to participate in an on-call schedule or be on site evenings or weekends as clinical demands warrant. Work during snow emergencies or other unexpected campus closures may be necessary. Position is eligible for hybrid work after a successful orientation period.

     

    This position is eligible for hybrid work arrangement up to two remote days per week at the discretion of the department. New employees may begin a hybrid schedule upon approval from the supervisor, successful completion of an orientation period and signing the remote work checklist certification form.
