Summary

The CAPS Psychologist is part of the Tulane University Campus Health team of committed professionals dedicated to supporting and promoting student health and wellbeing as a core institutional value through a multidisciplinary, comprehensive approach. This Psychologist position resides within the Counseling Center, and reports to a therapist team leader. The individual in this position is responsible for delivering clinical services and participating in community engagement activities.

As a member of the Counseling Center, the Psychologist provides student mental health services, including urgent walk-in assessments, consultations, individual psychotherapy, group therapy and workshops. The Psychologist also participates in designing and delivering outreach programs to students, as well as developing materials and presentations on topics pertinent to various University constituencies. The psychologist will be responsible for a specified area of coordination or advocacy or serve as a liaison to departments or groups on campus as assigned by the Director. Activities such as data collection and analysis, as well as program coordination, may also be pursued at times. The Psychologist participates regularly in Campus Health, therapist team, and CAPS staff meetings and trainings.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to protect confidentiality and meet all ethical standards associated with the practice of psychology within a university counseling center context

  • Strong case formulation, assessment and treatment skills, including the ability to understand transference and countertransference in working clinically with a diversity of clients, issues and levels of impairment

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, able to dialogue effectively with a wide range of students, faculty and staff

  • Ability to effectively utilize an electronic medical records system

  • Ability to take the lead when appropriate, both administratively and clinically

  • Ability to collaborate collegially with a multidisciplinary staff, both within CAPS and throughout the University community

  • Knowledge of developmental trends and concerns of undergraduates, as well as graduate and professional students

  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; and multicultural competency in working with students of color, students from all economic classes, first generation students, LGBTQ students, and international students.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited program and completion of an APA approved internship.

  • Licensed to practice psychology in the State of Louisiana or eligible by date of hire to obtain Louisiana licensure. Must be licensed in Louisiana within six months of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience delivering group interventions (interpersonal, support, skill-building).

  • Experience working with university students in a university counseling setting.

  • Training and experience working with substance abuse issues.

  • Experience working with BIPOC students, students from all economic classes, first generation students, LGBTQ students, and international students.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle spontaneous work demands while undertaking projects that require advanced planning.

  • Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology and licensed to practice psychology in the State of Louisiana or eligible by date of hire to obtain Louisiana licensure, including having previously passed the EPPP exam and completing postdoctoral clinical hours. Must be licensed in Louisiana within six months of hire date.

This position is classified as "exempt, salaried" and is assigned to pay grade 26PREM.
