For more than 30 years, Sooner Flight Academy has worked to inspire Oklahoma’s next generation to become leaders in the aviation industry and in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

We provide a memorable learning experience for students K-12 by encouraging inquiry and exploration. Our hands-on activities are designed to help kids understand more about the world around them through exciting discoveries using math, science and aviation principles. Sooner Flight Academy is seeking to hire up to four student employees to work as Staff Navigators. 

Duties Will Include:

  • Assist in teaching science and aviation lessons and activities to children ages 6 to 18.
  • Clerical duties including but not limited to writing lessons, answering phones, filing and customer service.
  • Additional duties including lifting, loading, packing supplies and equipment, setting up equipment and maintaining an inventory of supplies.
  • Make presentations to classes of up to 50 participants.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

*Per Minors on Campus Policies, Navigators must be age 18 or older.

Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in a combination of two terms as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.


  • Must attach Spring, Summer, or Fall 2024 class schedule and work availability.

Skills:


  • Experience working with children and/or youth, customer service, or previous youth camp experience.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Excel, and Word.

  • Must have demonstrated oral/written communication skills (English)

  • Must have demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work independently and as a team member.

  • Must have excellent leadership skills.

  • Strong attention to detail

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively using clear, concise English.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to engage in recreational activities, including the ability to grasp objects and assist students in minor physical activity.
  • Ability to engage in repetitive motions.

Department Preferences:

  • Experience working with children as a positive role model.
  • Preference for candidates who have completed 30 hours or more of undergraduate courses by the end of Spring 2023 semester and are 19 or older.
  • Preference for candidates who have completed 6 hours of one or more of the following: Engineering, Science, Math, Aviation, or Elementary Education courses.

Supervision: 

  • Navigators will supervise and instruct program participants ranging in age from 6 to 18 years of age.
