Position Summary:

Calling all electrical engineers! Are you interested in working for UDRI, a national leader in scientific and engineering research, serving government, industry and nonprofit customers? We invite qualified applicants to apply for our Staff Electrical Engineer opening!

The Staff Electrical Engineer provides technical support and research in support of a wide variety of projects. This position is well-suited to a curious, hard-working engineer interested in rapidly expanding their professional experiences. The role requires the ability to rapidly learn new concepts and apply them in a variety of applications to meet customers' needs. Further, the role requires an ability to work on collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams balancing competing requirements to support operational systems. This is not a "checklist" job, it requires creativity, critical thinking, a willingness to continue to learn, initiative, and the ability to learn from others.
Although duties and responsibilities will evolve over time, initial specific job duties include:
• Collaborate with senior engineers to assist in the design and development of embedded systems, including hardware and software components.
• Support the testing and validation of embedded systems to ensure functionality, performance, and reliability.
• Assist in the debugging and troubleshooting of embedded systems issues.
• Conduct research to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies, tools, and trends in embedded systems.
• Document and maintain technical specifications, schematics, and other relevant project documentation.
• Adhere to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards set by the customer.
• Participate in team meetings and provide input on project plans and timelines.
• Assist in the preparation and delivery of technical presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
• Adhere to UDRI and government policies, safety guidelines, and industry standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum R2 Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- 8 years’ experience working in applicable engineering field
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in using engineering software and tools (e.g., CAD, MATLAB, etc.)
- Strong understanding of embedded systems design principles, including hardware and software integration
- Familiarity with microcontrollers, processors, and other embedded system components
- Knowledge of communication protocols and interfaces commonly used in embedded systems (e.g., SPI,I2C, UART, CAN)
- Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
- Passion for learning and staying updated on emerging technologies
- Experience with formulating/authoring Government contracts and completing technical evaluations
- Due to requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. Citizen

Minimum R3 Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- 12 years’ experience working in applicable engineering field
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in using engineering software and tools (e.g., CAD, MATLAB, etc.)
- 4 years' experience with embedded systems design principles, including hardware and software integration
- Direct experience with microcontrollers, processors, and other embedded system components
- Knowledge of communication protocols and interfaces commonly used in embedded systems (e.g., SPI,I2C, UART, CAN)
- Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
- Passion for learning and staying updated on emerging technologies
- Experience with formulating/authoring Government contracts and completing technical evaluations
- Due to requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

Preferred R2 Qualifications:
- Experience working across multiple programs with unique proprietary data
- 8+ years’ experience working in applicable engineering field
- Prior internship or project experience in embedded systems development
- Experience laying out PCB boards and IC components
- Soldering experience
- Understanding of computer systems architectures
- Basic understanding of the business environment (ROI, trade analysis, etc)
- Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance
- Experience with SBIR contracts

Preferred R2 Qualifications:
- Experience working across multiple programs with unique proprietary data
- 12+ years’ experience working in applicable engineering field
- 8 years' experience in embedded systems development
- Experience laying out PCB boards and IC components
- Soldering experience
- Understanding of computer systems architectures
- Thorough understanding of the business environment (ROI, trade analysis, etc) with experience developing business cases for new products.
- Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance
- Experience with SBIR contracts
