Staff Editor- Marketing, Communications, & Technology

Edit content produced by BYU Marriott print and digital channels, including news releases, web features, Marriott Alumni Magazine  [44-page magazine, produced 3/year, with a print run of approximately 50,000], department newsletters, annual reports, websites, emails, advertisements, and brochures. Review marketing materials as necessary, write original content, and assist with special events/strategic initiatives.

What you'll do in this position: 

  • Maintain, update, and implement the BYU Marriott Editing and Usage Guide used by writers, editors, college employees, and media
  • Coordinate with BYU Brand and Creative editors to align college editing style with the university and Church styles, and apply and enforce the use of the BYU Marriott Editing and Usage Guide to written materials
  • Copyediting content produced for mass audiences, high-profile audiences, and content topics that require extra sensitivity and clarity
  • Writing for school publications, websites, and social media as necessary
  • Assist in conducting regular editorial training with team of student writers to improve their writing skills, self-editing quality, and overall editing judgment
  • Join brainstorming sessions and assist the college editorial team to continually improve story producing processes

 

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU 
  • Bachelor's degree with a major or minor in in journalism, PR, editing, or English
  • 1 year writing/editing experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, PR, editing or English and 3 years writing/editing experience
  • Experience teaching/training on editing/writing
  • Experience using Asana or similar project management tool
