Position Summary

The Counseling Services department at the University of Denver Health and Counseling Center (HCC) is seeking a half-time (.5FTE), two year, benefited Staff Counselor/Trauma/LGBTQI Specialist. This specialist position is for licensed mental health providers with interest and expertise in treating trauma, especially racialized/identity-based trauma, gender-based violence and/or other interpersonal violence. Along with providing both short-term and long-term psychotherapy, particularly for the queer community, this counselor, along with other HCC counselors, will work in close partnership with The Cultural Center, The Pride Lounge and the Center for Advocacy, Prevention and Empowerment (CAPE). This position provides direct counseling/psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and outreach/prevention services to DU students and along with a specialty in trauma and LGBTQI populations, will involve some generalist clinical work with a range of issues. The .5 FTE schedule would ideally include 24-28 hours per week during the 33 weeks of the primary academic quarters and 8-12 hours per week during non-peak times. The .5 FTE schedule is negotiable.

This position is a 2-year appointment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Provide direct counseling/psychotherapy services (individual, crisis, couples and group treatment) to DU students, primarily focused on supporting students who have experienced trauma.
• Provide direct counseling / psychotherapy services to DU students in the LGBTQI/queer community.
• Provide crisis intervention services via both our daytime crisis system (Counselor of the Day and Crisis Time coverage) and serving as back-up support for our after-hours on-call system.
• Serve as a liaison to the Pride Lounge and CAPE.
• Provide supervision and training to trainees as qualified and assigned.
• Maintain client records in a timely manner and according to HCC procedures.
• Maintain competency and enhance professional growth and development through continuing education activities.

Percentages:

• 65% Counseling/psychotherapy/supervision/crisis
• 15% Liaison and Outreach with campus partners, including but not limited to Pride Lounge, CAPE, etc.
• 15% Administration (including 1 hour/week senior staff meeting; 1 hour/week full staff meeting; charting intakes, progress notes, termination summaries; handling telephone calls, snail mail, email).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Specialization in working with LGBTQI/queer populations.
• Experience integrating the principles of Inclusive Excellence and anti-oppression/equity into the workplace.

Required Qualifications

• Licensed in the State of Colorado as an LCSW, LPC, LMFT or psychologist (or license eligible within three months).
• Experience providing short & long term counseling/psychotherapy.
• Experience with crisis intervention.
• 2+ years experience working with survivors of trauma, interpersonal violence, racialized trauma, and/or sexual assault.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with communities of color and other diverse populations.
• Experience working on a multi-disciplinary team.
• Experience supervising trainees.
• Two years experience in university/college counseling center or similar clinical environment.

Work Schedule
Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with evening hours until 7pm two to three evenings a week during the academic year. This position will work approximately 24 hours/week during the 33 academic weeks and less hours during the break/holiday weeks. The position will be required to work one extended hour evening/quarter (Wednesday or Thursday evening).

Salary Grade Number
The salary grade for the position is 12.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $37,500 - $42,500.
