The mission of the University of Denver's Health & Counseling Center is to enhance overall student well-being and success through inclusive physical and mental healthcare, prevention, education, advocacy, and recovery support services. The HCC is an on-campus facility with two counseling locations open 8am-5pm M-F with evening hours until 7pm two to three evenings a week during the academic year. The HCC provides a wide range of on-site medical and mental health services, along with advocacy, recovery and health promotion for the whole campus community. Position Summary

The Counseling Services department at the University of Denver Health and Counseling Center (HCC) is seeking a full-time, benefited Staff Counselor/BIPOC Specialist. This position is for a licensed mental health provider who has interest and specialization in working in a college counseling center and providing specialized clinical, outreach and training experiences serving diverse populations. Specifically, we are seeking a provider who has specialized training and expertise with the needs of Black/African American, Indigenous, and Persons of Color (BIPOC). Experience and knowledge about the specific developmental, mental health, and academic concerns of BIPOC students is required, and direct clinical experience with these student populations is highly preferred. Our ideal candidate would also have experience and interest in working with students from LGBTQIA+ backgrounds and intersectionality. It is important that this position recognizes the effects that discrimination, prejudice, and systemic oppression has on marginalized individuals, and how these negative biases may lead to psychological trauma and stress.

Essential Functions

  • Provide direct counseling/psychotherapy services (individual, crisis, couples and group treatment) to DU students, primarily focused on supporting students from diverse, BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ populations.
  • Provide crisis intervention services via both our daytime crisis system (Counselor of the Day and Crisis Time coverage) and serving as back-up support for our after-hours on-call system.
  • Support programs and provide outreach for the campus community that dovetail with the broader initiatives within Student Affairs and Inclusive Excellence division related to inclusivity, diversity and equity.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator of Diversity & Inclusion Initiatives to partner with other D&I campus partners to outreach to underserved populations on campus.
  • Co-lead Power, Privilege and Oppression PP&O) Training Seminar
  • Provide supervision and training to trainees as qualified and assigned, including the BIPOC postdoctoral resident.
  • Maintain client records in a timely manner and according to HCC procedures.
  • Maintain competency and enhance professional growth and development through continuing education activities.

Percentages:

  • 65% Counseling/psychotherapy/supervision/crisis.
  • 15% Liaison and Outreach with campus partners, including but not limited to the Cultural Center.
  • 15% Administration (including 1.5 hour/week senior staff meeting; 1 hour/week full staff meeting; charting intakes, progress notes, termination summaries; handling telephone calls, snail mail, email, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 2+ years experience working with BIPOC populations.

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed in the State of Colorado as an LCSW, LPC, LMFT or psychologist (or license eligible within three months).
  • Experience providing short and long-term counseling/psychotherapy.
  • Experience with crisis intervention.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience with LGBTQIA+ populations
  • Experience supervising trainees.
  • Two years experience in university/college counseling center or similar clinical environment.

Work Schedule
8am-5pm M-F with evening hours until 7pm two to three evenings a week during the academic year.

Salary Grade Number
The salary grade for the position is 12.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
