About Staff Council: The University of Pittsburgh Staff Council (staffcouncil.pitt.edu) is the representative body for staff in shared governance at Pitt and the conduit for staff participation in the development of policies and in decision-making processes that affect the institution. Staff Council acts as a communication channel between staff, faculty, students, the University Officers and Administrators, the Board of Trustees, and all officially recognized governance bodies of the University, including its regional campuses.

This position supports the elected officers and chairs of the University of Pittsburgh Staff Council and serves as a resource regarding organizational bylaws and operations, along with University policies, procedures, and systems. Prepares correspondence and reports for the Staff Council President. Manages communication for the organization through email, MS Teams, social media, website, and newsletters. Manages the Staff Council office and events.  Oversees planning and execution of the University of Pittsburgh Staff Council’s operations and with the elected officers contributes to defining goals and strategic objectives. Researches information and benchmarks data comparisons as needed. Manages Staff Council administrative operations and implements efficiencies to enhance effectiveness of Staff Council. Position requires an individual who is highly organized, detail oriented, and proactive.

Directs all facets of Staff Council meetings to include organizing meetings for Staff Council and its committees and assists with the Staff Council Spring Assembly and other professional development events. Investigates and understands the staff needs of the University and design programs that satisfy Staff Council’s mission and priorities in alignment with the University. Identifies and recommends appropriate actions regarding activities and events throughout the University that are open to all staff.

Performs budgetary functions (purchasing, expense tracking, projections, and reconciliation) and approves program budgets (including operating and endowed accounts), maintains accurate records of program progress (membership, events, external appointments), and conducts administrative tasks (such as agenda setting, booking speakers, coordinating technology, attendance, room reservations, etc.).  

Represents the organization and ensures all activities comply with Staff Council Bylaws and University policies and legal guidelines. Serves as primary liaison to all University of Pittsburgh staff and members and other University offices, community partners, and University administration.  



Job Summary

Performs all administrative and operational functions of a program. Coordinates all program events and personnel and provides services directly to customers. Develops and implements program policies and procedures. Performs budgetary functions and oversees media communications, website updates, and newsletters.


Essential Functions 

Manages programs, which include the development, administration, planning, and coordinating of one more academic, educational, recreational, cultural, residential, social, or other cocurricular student programs. Manages or assists in managing the budget of a program. 
    
Coordinates activities of various departments or personnel within department. 
   
Assists with research responsibilities and exploring new opportunities and grants. 
 
Provides services directly to customers. 
   
Establishes uniform correspondence procedures and style practices. Oversees the creation of newsletters and updates to the website and other media to promote the program. Reviews clerical and personnel records to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness. 
    
Prepares activity reports for guidance of management. 
    
Performs other related duties as required. 


Physical Effort 

Little physical effort required.
Duties are primarily sedentary.
May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
