Unit Mission Statement
The mission of the Office of Internal Audit is to provide independent and objective assurance and consulting services guided by a philosophy of adding value to the operations of William & Mary and Richard Bland College. The Office of Internal Audit reports directly to the Committee on Audit, Risk and Compliance of the Board of Visitors.
Position Summary
The Office of Internal Audit at W&M is seeking a motivated individual with the willingness to learn as an internal Staff Auditor.
Audit responsibilities include planning, fieldwork, testing, analysis, interviewing, and evaluating key business processes, documenting observations, and preparing reports in accordance with established procedures and applicable auditing standards. Auditors identify business issues and develop recommendations for University management; identify and recommend changes in policy and control procedures, and educate management on ways to respond to risk. Auditors will demonstrate excellent teamwork, collaboration, and a growth mindset with a high level of ethics.
Reporting to the Director of Internal Audit, this position will be eligible for a hybrid remote work schedule.
Conditions of Employment
This position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week, to include occasional overnight and weekend work as needed to meet the business needs of the operation.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Demonstrates excellent written, verbal & interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrates an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and collaborate with various levels of management.
  • Possess a strong work ethic and willingness to multi-task and take on increasing levels of responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience applying accounting principles and professional auditing standards
  • Experience analyzing internal control systems and procedures
  • Experience researching, interpreting, and/or evaluating compliance with pertinent laws, regulations, policies, etc.
  • Analytical and documentation experience
  • Experience with Computer Assisted Auditing tools
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws/regulations applicable to higher education
  • CPA, CIA, CISA, or working towards appropriate professional certification.

Advertised Pay Range $60,000 to $75,000
Advertised Pay Range Statement
All hiring rates are commensurate with relevant experience up to the advertised amount considering internal alignment.
