Flow Cytometry Laboratory
CUMC Immunogenetics and Cellular Immunology is seeking a qualified Staff Associate II to join our team.


Schedule:
The schedule will start with a 9-5, M-F schedule during training and later be structured to cover the afternoon shift (12-8PM), with some flexibility. Occasionally, unconventional working hours may be required (weekends, holidays, overtime) based on need.


Position responsibilities:
The work will involve hands-on processing of biological samples for clinical flow cytometry tests for lymphoid, non-lymphoid, and malignant immunophenotyping. Training in laboratory protocols and result reporting will be provided. An important part of the job will relate to the development of multi-color (10+) Flow Cytometry assays. The Staff Associate II will conduct basic and translational research studies in the field of Transplantation and Tumor Immunology perform experiments for the characterization of immune regulatory mechanisms and monitor the immune status of transplant recipients and cancer patients.


In addition, the responsibilities will include the implementation of new reagents, tests, and instrumentation, quality control/assurance, maintenance and troubleshooting of instruments, enforcing regulatory compliance, and training of residents and new personnel.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in natural sciences (biology preferred) and 4+ years of specialized experience in high complexity testing in a clinical laboratory setting. Prior experience in flow cytometry is a must experience in immunology and tissue culture is a plus.
  • NY State clinical laboratory technologist 'CLT' license is required; if necessary, will sponsor for training – the training must be completed within one year from the time of NYSED training certificate is issued.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English with colleagues and outside personnel
  • Prior managerial ability and experience, are a strong plus.
  • Impeccable record-keeping skills, compatible with a clinical operation
  • Dedication and commitment to patient needs, willingness to work overtime on emergency cases
  • Ability to work in teams, good interpersonal skills
  •  A good degree of computer literacy (Word processing, Excel spreadsheets).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with BD hardware (especially FACS Canto) and software and/or FCS Express is a plus
  • Prior experience in flow cytometry, immunology, and/or tissue culture.

Hiring Salary Range: 

Staff Associate II:

  • Minimum = $75,000 (without an NYS CLT license)
  • Maximum = $90,000 (NYS CLT license holder with a minimum of 4 years of experience specialized in flow cytometry)
