The Department of Economics at Columbia University invites applications for a full-time
predoctoral fellow at the rank of Staff Associate I for the period of July 1, 2023 to June
30, 2025 to work with the faculty of the Department of Economics at Columbia
University. Initial appointment is for one year with renewal for a second year based on
satisfactory performance and the availability of funding. The position will be based at
Columbia University in New York City. The predoctoral fellow will work under the
direction of one or more faculty members. The fellowship will include a variety of tasks
that provide preparation for graduate school, such as analyzing data, developing
statistical models, creating presentations, and editing research papers. The fellows will
interact regularly with professors and their collaborators. The program serves as an
ideal bridge between college and graduate school for students interested in economics.

Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree by time of appointment and have strong quantitative and programming skills. Candidates with research experience are strongly preferred, especially those with programming experience in Stata, Matlab, R, and Python. Candidates need not be Economics majors, though they should have a strong interest in and some experience with Economics. Candidates would ideally begin around July 1, 2023 and work for two years before applying to graduate school in Economics or another social science.

All applications must be made through Columbia University's Academic Search and
Recruiting (ASR) system. Please upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae, transcripts, and
a list of references. Before uploading documents, applicants first will be asked to input a
name and valid email address for each reference provider. The application to this
position requires a minimum of two reference letters. The application system will send
an automatic email to the reference provider, politely requesting a letter of reference
and offering a secure link to the recommendation website where a letter can be
uploaded quickly and easily. Wherever possible, letters should be uploaded in the
online system.
