Position Summary
Career Readiness Learning Objectives:
  • Critical Thinking- Mentor will utilize and develop the ability to collaborate through planning workshops, cultural activities, determining mentee needs, and balancing their own work, academic, and personal schedules.
  • Teamwork: Mentor will build and maintain collaborative relationships with professional staff members to work effectively toward common goals such as efficient record-keeping, creating newsletters, developing workshops, advising SSS participants, and promoting program events while appreciating diverse viewpoints and shared responsibilities.

Responsibilities:
Student Support Services (TRIO) seeks an empathic socially-skilled graduate student, particularly one who can relate to the background(s) of our students, to fill this position, with a strong preference for students with training and/or experience working with college students. This position will:
  • Assist with contacting incoming first-year students to explain the program and serve as a resource prior to the start of courses
  • Provide data entry support, assemble digital files, and assist with filing
  • Meet individually with current SSS students as needed
  • Plan and collaborate to facilitate workshops
  • Share knowledge and information related to applying to graduate school
  • Research scholarship opportunities for SSS students
  • Collaborate with staff to design and host program events
  • Introduce SSS students to campus and community resources
  • Be a student leader for SSS Peer Mentors
Required Qualifications
  • Ability to work as a team or independently
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Adept at Microsoft Suite and Canva
  • Ability and comfort in learning to utilize new software
  • other duties, as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to those with experience participating in or working with TRIO programs (e.g., Upward Bound, Talent Search, Student Support Services and/or McNair Scholars Program)
Physical Demands
Must be able to meet the physical demands associated with a busy office and University environment
