Department Description

The UC Davis Genome Center (UCDGC), in the College of Biological Sciences, coordinates interdisciplinary research in the areas of genomics and bioinformatics, and is involved in the training of undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.

 

Job Summary

Responsible for performing common and specific laboratory support functions in the Metabolomics Core facility. Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to perform sample preparation, operate and maintain LC- mass spectrometers. Perform quantification routines in conjunction with service projects. Follow SOPs to perform data processing and quality control. Perform sample preparation for high quality analyses of biological specimen in metabolomics and lipidomic. Utilize high throughput assays for body fluids and tissues using laboratory automation and assess quality control results. Work with visiting scholars and students during learning, implementation and carrying out SOPs in Metabolomics Core, including courses taught by the Metabolomics Core.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Maintain a work schedule during the core business hours. Occasional overtime required during heavy workload/deadline periods. Work in a high traffic area with frequent interruptions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Experience in operating and maintaining liquid chromatography and mass spectrometers used in liquid chromatography.
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative analytical chemistry.
  • Experience in data analysis and quality control procedures.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Knowledge of metabolomics – basic principles and techniques
  • Collaboration and teamwork – work as part of a team
  • Problem solving – specifically in mass spectrometry and separation.
  • Technical/laboratory skills – Plan and execute troubleshooting procedures and practical and safety procedures.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:             

  • Experience in utilizing quantitative mass spectrometry, including triple quadrupole MS.
  • Experience with high resolution mass spectrometers.
  • Experience running a scientific service core.
  • Experience in data processing of complex mixtures
