Position Title SR VICE PROVOST/ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
Position Summary
The Senior Vice Provost (SVP) directs operations in the Academic Division, in consultation with the Provost and Senior Vice Provost for Academic Administration, and in collaboration with the Academic Deans and Vice Presidents. As the Provost’s liaison for Academic Affairs, the SVP provides leadership and coordination of activities within the colleges and partners with other units including Student Recruitment and Retention, the Division of Student Affairs, and external agencies. The SVP monitors academic unit compliance, coordination, and progress on university priorities including academic program review, accreditation, and assessment. The SVP provides oversight for the coordination and achievement of goals and initiatives identified in the university’s strategic plan and academic vision. The SVP supervises the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instructional Support, Executive Director of Student Success & Academic Advising, Director of Study Abroad, Director of the Honors Program, Director of the National Scholarship Program, and the General Education Coordinator. The SVP leads and provides oversight of community engagement, first-year experience, general education, and the faculty information system used for reappointment, tenure, and promotion. This is an at-will position reporting directly to the Provost and Executive Vice President and supports the priorities identified annually with the Provost.
Required Qualifications
Earned doctorate or other terminal degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
A distinguished record of teaching, research/scholarship activities with Associate or Full Professor status.
Three years of administrative experience in a college or university, including prior experience as an Associate Dean, Department Chair, or experience in academic administration.
Demonstrated leadership and administrative skills appropriately related to the areas of responsibility and evidenced by increasingly responsible administrative positions.
Experience with curriculum design and development.
Knowledge of and experience with current accreditation in higher education, such as regional, national, and specialized accreditation agencies, or state licensing or certification agencies.
Demonstrated experience in program and student learning assessment, including collection and analysis of data, followed by implementation of strategies to improve program outcomes and student learning.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice, and an enduring commitment to addressing the needs and concerns of under-resourced students.
Experience developing and maintaining strategic, collaborative relationships with stakeholders at the university level and in the community.
Superior skills in written and oral communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and consensus building.
Demonstrated commitment to shared governance and ability to lead positive change.
Preferred Qualifications
A working knowledge and demonstrated success in grant writing.
Experience gathering and using data to develop, implement, and evaluate initiatives.
Strong ability to analyze and interpret data and communicate this to a broad set of audiences.
Experience with strategic planning and implementation.
Duties & Responsibilities
Oversees the operations and supervises the Executive Directors/Directors of the following units: curriculum and instructional support, honors, study abroad, the national scholarship program, and student success & academic advising, as well as the General Education Coordinator.
Leads and/or contributes to campus-wide committees and projects related to educational quality, including chairing the Academic Planning Council and leading initiatives related to both undergraduate and graduate education.
Collaborates with the Academic Senate to develop and implement strategies to sustain and assess the university-wide general education curriculum.
Works with university partners to develop and revise relevant academic policies and procedures to advance student success.
Leads strategic oversight of program assessment and accreditation, collaborating with university partners to develop a sustainable plan for learning assessment and program review, ensuring compliance with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and specialized accreditations.
Provides administrative oversight and coordination of university curricular development and related policies.
Advances the university’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice.
Coordinates special projects and serves as a liaison to off-campus programs and external groups.
Serves as the Provost’s designee related to resolving academic student complaints not satisfactorily addressed elsewhere.
Collaborates with academic units and the academic advising community to enhance the undergraduate student experience and encourage student progress toward degree.
Partners with campus and community stakeholders to establish a smooth and seamless transfer experience for students.
Oversees elements and initiatives outlined in the university’s strategic and academic plans.
Contributes strategic leadership for concurrent enrollment programs, including oversight of course offerings, program assessment, communication with the university and the broader community, and opportunities to expand partnerships.
Other duties as assigned by the Provost/Executive Vice President.
