Sr Research Program Manager

We are seeking a Sr. Research Program Manager  who will manage the administrative and scientific implementation of research protocol for complex and/or multiple research studies. As part of study team, collaborate with faculty, develop protocol, develop SOP, and supervise study-related activities for one or more studies. Typically serve on executive committee and/or steering committee of large study. May manage staff at local site or be involved in management of sites at multiple locations. Supervise or oversee other exempt level research staff. Accountable for grant submission and administration, and regulatory compliance.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Involve in scientific discussions with collaborators, PI's, and funding organizations.
  • Participate significantly in writing manuscripts.
  • Supervise data collection at single site study or at multiple sites of a multi-centered clinical trial.

Operations

  • Provide scientific input, guidance and leadership in the acquisition and management of infrastructure resources.
  • Provide input and support to investigators in developing and executing new research projects.
  • Work closely with the clinical research directors in the department in ensuring needs of the specific research space/population are addressed, such as in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the Neurocritical Care Unit (NCCU).
  • Work closely with the vice chair for research to promote collaborations between investigators.
  • Work closely with the vice chair for research to plan department-wide team building initiatives.
  • Maintain a big picture perspective of the research process and the necessary skills to engage investigators and augment their research success.
  • Work closely with the vice chair for research to strategically address research staffing needs.
  • Lead and facilitate collaborative discussion at team building meetings for clinical research staff.
  • Help faculty and staff navigate and access appropriate research core services available at the SOM.

Contract negotiations (CTO, Innovations, Research Management)

  • Represent PI (with full knowledge of study and ability to answer questions) at meetings they are unable to attend.
  • Represent PI in DUA development with Data trust/legal team.
  • Provide input to Investigators on DUA drafting with regard to IRB/RISO concerns.

Finance

  • Manage invoicing for research studies in the OnCore financial management system.
  • Create invoices and reconcile payments for industry research studies not in OnCore as requested.
  • Develop and review preliminary budgets for industry and academic research projects.
  • Interface/liaise with Research Finance department and Industry sponsors to reconcile payments as needed.

Grants

  • Advise investigators on consistency and completeness of all documents in a grant submission.
  • Review and advise investigators on NIH and foundation grant application requirements.
  • Advise and collaborate with grant admin team on NIH/foundation submissions and Industry agreements.

Regulatory

  • Develop and review IRB submissions.
  • Liaise with IRB staff and leadership on complex studies (cede review, multi-site, SMART IRB etc)
  • Support and advise Investigators.
  • Liaise with IRB on challenges encountered by Investigators and facilitate creative solutions to keep the research moving forward.

Mentorship

  • Mentor junior investigators on how they can maximize the quality of their data and study results.
  • Mentor investigators on how they can tailor their IRB submission to best address the concerns of the IRB.

Management

  • Oversee and support research coordinators in communications with IRB and research investigators.
  • Supervise research study staff including research nurse, research assistants and technicians.
  • Post job, screen resumes, interview and recommend candidates to be hired to maintain appropriate staffing levels.
  • Work with the PIs in engaging or obtaining consultation from the JHU BEAD Core (Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Data Management Core) or other departmental statistical staff as needed for the project.

Teaching

  • Clinical research methods.
  • Database Management.
  • Navigating the research process.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or PhD in related discipline.
  • Eight years related experience including significant experience in field conducting large research projects.

Starting Salary Range: Min $64,000 - Max $112,200 Annually ($83,300 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
