Sr. Research Associate

POSITION: Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has multiple openings for a Sr. Research Associate in Berkeley, CA.

 

Duties: Performing research assignments such as programming functions, importing data, providing preliminary analysis of data. Duties also include developing quality assurance methods, troubleshooting failed analyses for PET and MRI imaging data, learning new database system (XNAT), compiling datasets for other labs, and developing new analyses and visualization of data. Managing XNAT database of neuroimaging scans. Updating and providing documentation for users on how to use the XNAT database. Training others on how to use the XNAT database (uploading/organizing) and double-checking their work. Providing support for the primary programmer building XNAT database.  Helping implement and test new programs. Identifying neuroimaging scans that did not complete processing pipeline or completed with problems. Figuring out and fix scans that did not complete or completed with problems. Providing reports to users regarding scans in XNAT database. Providing support on multi-site imaging studies (learning processing for those scans, downloading data, processing, and compiling reports when needed). Providing support on performing motion correction between PET emission scans and attenuation correction scans. Setting up the process for blood draw for multi-site study (coordinating with environmental health and safety, knowledge of blood borne pathogens, making sure lab meets safety requirements for shipping blood), training and providing support for others who will regularly do this task.

 

Benefits: This full salary range of this position is between $84,000 to $99,132 per year depending upon candidates' full skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.

 

 

Requirements: Master's degree in Bioengineering, Engineering Science, or related field. Position requires:

 

1. Programming, reading, and writing code in Matlab, R, and Python;

2. Designing, supervising, and conducting laboratory experiments;

3. Importing, exporting, organizing, and analyzing scientific data sets;

4. Developing and documenting QA/QC methods and standard protocols;

5. Acquiring and analyzing scientific images using image processing programs;

6. Managing and supervising lab staff and intern students; and

7. Participating in multi-institutional projects.
