Nature of Work

This is a part-time (0.5 FTE) position at the rank of Senior Professional Research Assistant (SrPRA) at the Colorado School of Public Health (CSPH) and Centers for American Indian and Alaska Native Health (CAIANH). The SrPRA will be working on stakeholder outreach and engagement as a Project Manager for a research project on American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) health funded by the National Institutes of Health. The Indian Health Service (IHS) Improving Health Care Delivery Data Project (IHS Data Project) was developed in collaboration with IHS and Tribes to provide information about chronic conditions among AI/AN people. The project involves the analysis of existing IHS/Tribal (I/T) data to report on the health coverage, health status, service utilization, and treatment costs for AI/ANs, with a focus on chronic disease (e.g., diabetes; cardiovascular disease; mental health conditions, including dementia; oral health conditions). Project results may be used to identify and prioritize strategies to improve health outcomes and resource use.

CAIANH is a research center in the Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH) on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.  The overall mission of CAIANH is to advance the health of American Indian and Alaska Native communities through research, training, technical assistance, and information dissemination. This position will be supervised by the project’s Principal Investigator (PI), Joan O’Connell, PhD.

Examples of Work Performed

  • This position will function as a member of the IHS Improving Health Care Delivery Data Project Team, to conduct stakeholder outreach and logistics.
  • Coordinate communication with existing and potential stakeholders.
  • Organize and manage logistics for meetings (e.g., scheduling, agendas, documents, compensation).
  • Contribute to materials developed for stakeholder engagement and other types of engagement:
    • Develop tables, graphs, and other data visualizations for PowerPoint presentations, manuscripts, and reports.
    • Conduct literature reviews (online searches) on study topics relevant to topics addressed in our stakeholder engagement.
    • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary CAIANH research staff to provide input on documents and grant applications.
    • Write reports for the project sponsor and stakeholders.
  • Conduct focus groups and key informant interviews with stakeholders and summarize findings.
  • Assist with additional duties, as necessary. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and basic experience with descriptive statistics and use of linear and logistic regression analyses conducted to understand patient’s health risks.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and experience with stakeholder engagement with stakeholders from different backgrounds about public health activities.
  • Ability to understand the social and cultural context of American Indian/Alaska Native communities and their health service delivery system.
  • Knowledge of, or ability and willingness to gain knowledge in the principles, practices, and standards of care for diabetes and cardiovascular health promotion, disease prevention, and treatment.
  • Understanding of HIPAA and IRB requirements for health care research and programming.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative, supportive relationships with all project stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; highly organized.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently.

Salary and Benefits

The salary / salary range for this position has been established at $29,000 to $32,500 for 0.5 FTE.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Master’s degree in public health, social/behavioral health, biostatistics, healthcare, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least 2 years of professional level experience working in public health or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with public health research, health services research, diabetes programs, and dementia.
  • Experience with stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience working with AI/AN communities.
  • Experience conducting focus groups and key informant interviews.
