Nature of Work
The Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH) has an opening for a full‐time Senior Professional Research Assistant (Sr.PRA) position within the Department of Epidemiology. This Sr.PRA position will focus on cancer research through the University of Colorado Comprehensive Cancer Center (CU-CCC). The CU-CCC physicians and researchers overcome cancer through innovation, discovery, prevention, early detection, multidisciplinary care, and education. The CU-CCC scientists in the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program aim to reduce cancer risk, occurrence, and mortality through multidisciplinary approaches.
 
The Sr.PRA will manage the cancer research studies of the CU-CCC and the CSPH by assisting with literature reviews, grant submissions, descriptive analyses and data cleaning, and preparing publication quality graphics and tables. The Sr. PRA will be responsible for managing IRB applications/renewals, Data Use Agreements (DUAs) and Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs), data collection staff, research meeting coordination, and, assist with other research related activities (eg., tracking, quality control, purchasing) as needed.

Supervision Received
This position will report directly to Dr. Linda Cook, Associate Director for Population Sciences, CU-CCC.
 
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This position will mentor and supervise other PRAs and student workers working on research studies for Dr. Cook.
 
Examples of Work Performed

  • Ensure study information is stored and used in a HIPAA compliant manner.

  • Draft and then submit final IRB applications/renewals/closures.

  • Maintain an inventory of Dr. Cook’s research studies, including tracking databases.

  • Assist in literature reviews for grants and papers as needed.

  • Assist in data cleaning and descriptive analyses for research studies.

  • Assist in preparing publication quality tables and figures.

  • Assist in developing/compiling data collection instruments as needed.

  • Write Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) for new research activities.

  • Manage research meetings by drafting agendas, booking rooms, and inviting relevant personnel.

  • Basic financial processing for research-related purchases

  • Coordinate training, management, and workflow of students/personnel for Dr. Cook’s research studies.

  • Weekly meetings with Dr. Cook to update the status of all research studies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of technical/professional personnel and community participants.

  • Strong scientific writing skills

  • Strong organization skills

  • Database experience for efficient and effective data management such as EXCEL, ACCESS, or REDCap.

  • Excellent computer skills for programs such as WORD, ENDNOTE, POWERPOINT, GOOGLE DOCS, DROP BOX, EXCEL, SAS, R, STATA, REDCap, QUALTRICS, SEER*STAT

  • Ability to learn University specific software for IRB applications, purchases, etc.

  • Ability to work independently and make decisions within the scope of duties.

  • Experience managing observational research studies.

  • Experience in de novo data collection and/or biospecimen collection from research participants.

Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position have been established at $58,000 – $70,000 for a Sr. PRA.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, rank, internal equity, experience, education, and area of expertise. The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Qualifications

 
 
Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public health or related field

  • 3+ years of experience in research setting with human subjects, preferably in observational research

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
