Job Summary:

The Senior Data and Business Analyst will be broadly responsible for data analyses conducted to support finance operations, including budgetary, accounting, and financial reporting areas. The position is responsible for assisting with process improvement initiatives within the Finance Department.

 

Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:

·         Complete business process improvement reviews and oversee implementation of enhanced processes.

·         Provide sophisticated output in the form of reports, analyses, research, and data. Reports frequently involve complex budgetary and accounting data displayed as tables and visually displayed graphical information.

·         Work with various areas within the Finance Department at UT Tyler and UT Tyler Health Science Center to support data analysis needs.

·         Participate in the preparation of complex data, analysis, and technical reports.

·         Create ad hoc reports or data files in response to specific data inquiries.

·         Analyze general ledger data for budgetary, accounting, and financial reporting analysis.

·         Complete other additional and/or alternative duties as assigned.

Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

·         Demonstrated experience using automated systems to query and evaluate datasets; proficiency in Microsoft systems (Excel, Access, etc.) required.

·         Track record of creative problem solving, multi-tasking, and quick response to requests for data analyses.

·         Must possess skills for interpreting, analyzing and pre-processing data.

·         Demonstrated proficiency using analytic software.

·         Advanced written and oral communication skills.

·         Must be able to manage projects independently and prioritize tasks.

·         Demonstrated ability to implement projects and adhere to established timelines.

·         Ability to conceptualize and perform data analysis.

·         Must be able to generate custom reports for budget and other finance areas.

·         Must be detail oriented with the ability to pay close attention to accuracy of work.

·         Experience communicating patterns of data through graphical display desirable.

·         Ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and appropriately for the intended purpose and audience required.

·         Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team player.



Qualifications

 

Required Education / Experience:

·         Bachelor’s Degree required in business, computer science, finance, mathematics, or related field.  Master’s Degree preferred.

·         At least five years hands-on data analyst/research experience, preferably in topics related to medical education and/or higher education.

·         Lean Six Sigma and/or other process improvement experience preferred.

·         PeopleSoft experience preferred.

·         A combination of education and experience may be accepted.
