Sr. Compensation and HR Policy Professional

The University System of Georgia (USG) is comprised of 26 higher education institutions as well as the University System Office (USO). Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Our Information Technology Services (ITS) division is located in Athens. The University System of Georgia Shared Services Center (SSC) is located in Sandersville. The Georgia Public Library System is located in Atlanta. The Georgia Archives is located in Morrow. The State of Georgia Records Center is located in Austell.

This position will be located at the University System Office's (USO) in Atlanta, Ga. 

Serve as subject matter expert in the planning, development and implementation of new and revised job classification and compensation programs, policies and procedures to be consistent with the USG's strategic objectives, goals and competitive practices.

  • Serve as subject matter expert in the planning, development and implementation of new and revised job classification and compensation programs, policies and procedures to be consistent with the USG's strategic objectives, goals and competitive practices.

 

  • Maintain knowledge of compensation best practices, laws and regulations. Develops and drafts new policy proposals and amendments to address identified issues or gaps. Evaluate the potential impacts of proposed policies using quantitative and qualitative methods. Effectively communicates recommendations to key stakeholders for consideration and implementation.

 

  • Monitor the effectiveness of existing compensation policies, guidelines and procedures and recommends program improvements, facilitates discussions with key stakeholders, coordinates approval and implementation and provides guidance to USG institutions. 

 

  • Conduct research and provide compensation analysis and data management support for special projects (salary survey participation, large scale market studies, new government-mandated changes, etc.). Provides consultative advice and guidance on the administration of pay programs with the objective of internal equity and consistent pay practices that adhere to BOR policy when making compensation determinations regarding job families, classifications, and salary progression.

 

  • Develops and delivers training and or presentations on related topics to a broad audience.  Working closely with USG HR Leadership, Campus HR offices and classification and compensation departments to ensure compensation programs are consistently administered in compliance with USG policies, government regulations, and compensation best practices.

 

  • May lead project teams and conduct or participate in system wide job classification and compensation audits. 

 

  • Document and maintain records of policy updates. Monitor the implementation of adopted policies to assess their effectiveness and ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.

 

  • Research changes in USG, State or Federal laws and regulations with systemwide impact and propose revisions to USG policies to ensure compliance.

Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Public Policy, Business Administration or related field or equivalent combination of experience and education
Eight years of progressively responsible experience in Human Resources and at least four years specific to Compensation which includes salary administration policy development and interpretation; Salary data analysis, reporting, and survey participation to include experience with survey management software; Job development and evaluation; and providing consultative advice and guidance to management teams and customer groups.
 

 Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or other compensation development/certification

  • PHR/SPHR, and/or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP

1. Proficient working knowledge of FLSA and DOL compensation regulations, procedures, and
compensation practices including employment classification rules and regulations.
2. Knowledge of federal and state employment laws, including DOL and IRS rules and regulations.
3. Knowledge of compensation program administration.
4. Skill in compensation data acquisition, analysis, and data management.

6. Skill in consulting practices, processes and relationship management; Business Acumen, and ethical practice
7. Skill in written communication to executive and subject matter experts.
8. Skill in intermediate Excel including creating formulas, charts, and reports.

11. Skill in oral and written communication.
12. Ability to synthesize large amounts of detailed information into charts, graphs and key points.
13. Ability to calculate and interpret mathematical formulas such as percentages, ratios, etc.
14. Ability to prioritize tasks in alignment with the priorities of the organization.
15. Ability to respond diplomatically to sensitive and critical issues.
16. Ability to effectively multi-task.
