Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati, College of Engineering and Applied Science invites applications for a Senior CNC Operator, full-time staff position. 
 

Senior CNC Operator will apply the use of CNC/conventional machining in the production of student and research projects parts production where appropriate; troubleshoot and repair laboratory systems and equipment used in thermo/fluid, strength of materials, welding, and machining laboratories; and serve as a resource for all machines/laboratory users. Additional opportunities are available to teach machining and/or welding classes (up to 2 sections per semester, total of 6 sections per year).


Essential Functions
  • Program and operate CNC machines, as well as conventional machine tools and other fabrication equipment such as sheet-metal cutting and forming (including Plasma CAM), welding and casting.  Ensure the Machine Shop is kept clear, orderly and all available equipment is in good working condition.
  • Fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machines and lab equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and make minor CNC equipment repairs. Set-up, troubleshoot and supervise the use of lab equipment and/or experiments.
  • Work with students and faculty in the fabrication of component parts for student senior design and research projects.
  • Apply the use of CNC in the production of student and research project part production where appropriate. Keep up to date with CNC related software changes and generally integrate the use of CNC into everyday operations.
  • Provide training, supervision, and assistance to students and/or researchers regarding the use of machines and lab equipment.
  • Provide support for laboratory instructors. Distribute handouts, manuals, and documentation to instructors.
  • Regularly evaluate surplus equipment and materials, then disposition as needed. Perform supply inventories and purchase all needed equipment, repair parts, tooling, consumable supplies, and raw materials for the Machine Shop.
  • Develop and implement safety programs. Work with EH&S to perform safety audits and assure that safety regulations are met. Ensure all personal and machine safety equipment is available and in good condition. Maintain safety records.
  • Recruit and supervise student assistants working in the Machine Shop and other MET Labs. Monitor and approve hours worked.

Required Education
  • Associate's Degree.
  • Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience

Two (2) years of relevant experience.


Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Willingness to learn and master new processes and CNC equipment.
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems.
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Word and Excel to create and format documents and spreadsheets and ability to learn and adapt to new software as the need arises.
  • Knowledge and safe operation and maintenance of basic hand and power tools.
