Position Announcement

This is a "Business Intelligence & Research Services" (BIRS) position dedicated as the point person for the data priorities and needs of the Academic Affairs Division following the resources and services model of Digital Transformation (Dx).
 
Under the direction of the BIRS Director, the Senior BI Analyst is a highly experienced and motivated team member who provides data-driven insights to support our institutional decision-making processes. The Senior BI Analyst primarily focuses on serving the needs of the Academic Affairs division to plan and implement data by employing storytelling techniques to create compelling narratives. They will inform key Academic Affairs decision-makers by providing quantitative, qualitative, and predictive data analysis and reporting of patterns, insights, and trends. They attend key meetings with Academic Affairs leadership to understand the objectives of stakeholders to ensure that data analysis and insights align with their needs.


Summary of Responsibilities

  • Stakeholder Management: Works closely with our stakeholders (liaison with Academic Affairs), including administrators, faculty, and staff, to analyze data and provide actionable recommendations to best utilize data to tell the UVU story. Serves as the direct connection with the Academic Affairs division for all data requests, needs, communications, and support in relationship to data-centered conversation. Assists driving business decisions by providing quantitative, qualitative, and predictive data analysis and reporting of patterns, insights, and trends to key decision-makers. Works with other BIRS team members to facilitate meeting the data needs.
  • Analysis: Coordinates with BIRS leadership in the collection, aggregation, and analysis of data from multiple internal and external sources to drive insights into institutional performance. Produce actionable reports, dashboards, and visualizations that show key performance indicators (KPIs), identify areas of improvement into current operations, and display root cause analysis of problems.
  • Reporting and tools: Provide reporting solutions and respond to ad-hoc report requests across multiple business areas. Participate in the design and development of business intelligence reporting tools used by Academic Affairs.
  • Train and mentor junior analysts on: data analysis techniques, data visualization tools, and best practices for data management and governance. Stay up-to-date on emerging trends and best practices in data analysis, data management, data visualization, and storytelling with data.


Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Public Administration, Education Administration, Business Administration, Research/Evaluation or a related field or a combination of education and experience totaling six years.


Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

Knowledge: 

  • Knowledge of business intelligence tools and techniques, such as data modeling, data warehousing, and data visualization.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and data mining techniques.
  • Knowledge of database design, database management, and data governance best practices.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as SQL, R, Python, and other data analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of higher education institutions' structure, policies, and procedures.
Skills: 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data sets and identify patterns and trends.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, or QlikView.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis tools, such as R or Python.
  • Strong storytelling skills, with the ability to create compelling narratives and effectively communicate the story behind the data.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data sets and identify patterns and trends.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication, both in informal and formal contexts.
  • Attention to detail and clarity.
