Job Description:

The Chicago School is a nonprofit private university with more than 6,000 students. The university is building the Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine: IllinoisCOM (applicant status - seeking accreditation). 

The Chicago School is hiring a Senior Associate Dean of Pre-Clinical Affairs to serve as a critical leader in the founding of the proposed IllinoisCOM (applicant status - seeking accreditation). The Senior Associate Dean will collaboratively oversee the development, delivery, assessment, and ongoing evaluation of preclinical curriculum and instruction leading to the DO degree.

The Senior Associate Dean will supervise staff and teams as assigned, such as biomedical affairs, simulation and experiential learning, research, and the integration of clinical content into the OMS1/OMS2 educational program. The Senior Associate Dean will also work closely with the Founding Dean and academic leaders for clinical education to ensure students are prepared for clinical rotations.

This position will be based in Chicago, IL at The Chicago School’s downtown campus location. Standard business hours are expected to be generally consistent with Central Time (CT). Occasional domestic travel may be required to support key activities, attend events, and build productive relationships and partnerships on behalf of The Chicago School.

The Senior Associate Dean of Pre-Clinical Affairs will report to the Founding Dean and serve on the leadership team of the proposed IllinoisCOM (applicant status - seeking accreditation). The Senior Associate Dean will work effectively within a matrix organization, collaborating with leadership at the proposed IllinoisCOM (applicant status - seeking accreditation), The Chicago School, and TCS Education System.


Academic Quality and Outcomes

  • Develop and maintain high-quality educational policy, Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs), and Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs).

  • Oversee the development, delivery, assessment, and ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of pedagogy across the college.

  • Establish a curriculum committee and ensure the outcomes of the committee are met.

  • Activate academic leadership for outcomes & assessment on evaluation of all courses, laboratory, service, and scholarly activities; ensure formal after-action reporting, curriculum inventory, and mapping at least annually (and more as needed).


  • Hire, onboard, coach, and performance manage effective leaders, teams, and personnel. 

  • Collaborate with leadership and curriculum committee on the development and promulgation of curriculum schedule, in accordance with student and faculty needs.

  • Serve as a primary steward of department and division resource and budget needs.

  • Serve as a key team member of the Founding Dean’s leadership team; provide verbal and written reports as requested.

  • Develop, write, and review accreditation materials at the direction of the Founding Dean.

  • Ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards and requirements for all areas of responsibility.

  • Actively engage in all site visits as directed.


  • Chair or actively participate on selected committees, at the discretion of the Founding Dean.

  • Collaborate with leadership on the evaluation of osteopathic student readiness to advance to the next level of curriculum, in accordance with university policies.

  • Participate in student interviewing, mentorship, and career counseling.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive culture amongst all students, faculty, and staff.

  • Develop and cultivate meaningful partnerships that advance the reach and strategic impact of the proposed IllinoisCOM (applicant status - seeking accreditation).


  • Doctorate in Medicine (DO or MD) or Education (Ph.D. or equivalent).

  • Current board certification and active licensure, where applicable.

  • At least 5 (five) years of professional experience in an academic environment (e.g., medical school, graduate medical education, accrediting organization).

  • At least 5 (five) years of professional experience with leadership and management; preferably with departments or teams of more than 10 (ten) employees.

  • Demonstrated professional experience and/or expertise with at least four of the below areas:

    • Medical school curriculum and medical education

    • Testing evaluation and other assessments

    • Psychometrics

    • Research and publication

    • Assessment, accreditation, and regulatory standards and requirements

    • Modern clinical practice

    • Modern clinical practice technology


  • Demonstrated ability to lead, specifically the ability to influence action and shape performance of direct reports and teams.

  • Must have excellent written, verbal, management, administrative, and organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities independently and in a team-oriented environment.

  • Exceptional skill at analyzing a situation, distilling a problem, providing feedback, and designing and implementing effective solutions that support an organization’s overall mission and strategic mission.

  • Proven ability to positively engage and communicate with diverse audiences, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external partners and executives.  

Compensation & Benefits

This opportunity is budgeted at $175,000 - 300,000 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
