The Assistant Director of Sports Nutrition, Olympic, will be responsible for assisting in enhancing athletic performance and overall well-being of the student-athletes. This position will help design and lead nutrition care for all assigned sports. This position will actively engage and collaborate with Strength & Conditioning, Sports Medicine, Sports Psychology, Sports Science, and Coaches. This role will also collaborate with development staff and campus partners including UHS and Campus Dining to help maximize the potential of each student-athlete through the development, direction, and implementation of sports nutrition initiatives.
  • This position will play an integral role in providing practical and evidence-based nutrition, health and wellness assistance to their respective team assignments in concert with the mission and vision of the Notre Dame Sports Nutrition Department. This includes consultations, performance nutrition coaching, travel, preparation of food provisions for sports (travel snacks, smoothies, special treats, etc) and more..
  • Assist with oversight of fueling stations to include ordering, accepting deliveries, scheduling, transport of inventory, rotation of product, and daily operations.
  • Consult with Sports Performance, Director of Operations, and dining entities (on and off campus) regarding fueling practices for pre- / post-game, half-time, travel, and other special meals in order to adhere to performance nutrition standards.
  • Provide group nutrition education through team talks, Teamworks, educational handouts, emails, social media outlets, newsletters, signage, and other creative means.
  • Conduct body composition tests and analyze results / trends to identify risks and make recommendations to student-athletes on changes that can be made to improve overall health and performance in accordance with policy.
  • Collaborate with university staff and other disciplines regarding supplement safety, eating disorder/disordered eating, and performance dining.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary staff to provide department education through event programming, presentations, workshops.
  • Other duties as assigned in alignment with Sports Nutrition Department goals

Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be organized, capable of leading in an effective manner, able to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment, and possess strong interpersonal skills. Additional minimum criteria include:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or related field from an accredited college or university is required
  • 1 to 4 years experience working with a sports nutrition department at a Division 1 school or other noteworthy entity
  • Must be a Registered Dietitian (RD) through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Or RD-eligible within 6-months)
  • Must have knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, specifically in regards to supplements, is required
  • Must have previous experience working with a sports nutrition department at a Division 1 school or other noteworthy entity
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred criteria include:
  • Master’s degree or advanced certification beyond Bachelor’s
  • Experience with iDXA and body composition testing is preferred
  • Willingness to work with ED/DE population is preferred
