Job Summary

Reporting to the Sports Information Director, the sports information assistant is responsible for running athletic contests and helping publicize Caltech athletics via contest summaries, website updates and other general promotional activities.

This is a part time regular position to specifically assist with the management of collegiate sports contests. Typical schedule will be afternoons, nights and weekends as the majority of contests are on a pre-set schedule.

Job Duties

  • Collect, verify, record, report and post all official game and individual statistics, results and records to SCIAC and NCAA. Use of Stat Crew and other game management software.
  • Publicize and celebrate the achievements of Caltech student athletes, coaches and program through game summaries, feature articles, season preview and summary in a variety of print, electronic and video formats. Assist with the stewardship of the department website
  • Responsible for many aspects of home game management for all sports. Including: a) Obtain scorers, timers, statisticians and PA announcer as necessary; b) Coordinate live stat and video streaming program in an equitable and high-quality manner; c) Ensure game officials are greeted and paperwork and payment coordinated; d) Assist with game management supervision program implemented by head coaches.
  • During the offseason (May 15 – September 15) each year, this position will be responsible for creating and updating archives, web site updates, and marketing initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to: facilities supervision and rec league supervision.

Basic Qualifications

  • AA degree required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Strong general computer, software, technology and specific database management skills.
  • Proven ability to multi-task effectively; work effectively and independently within a collaborative team; very organized.
  • Above reproach in integrity, awareness of all legal and ethical responsibilities working with students.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cultivate positive relationships with every level of the organization through excellent problem solving and conflict management skills.
  • Physical work environment, must be able to lift 50 lbs. or more on a regular basis, each day is filled with physical tasks, event set up, and equipment in a variety of capacities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; Related field of communication, journalism preferred.
