Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Campus Recreation provides a variety of programs and services to meet the
recreation/fitness/wellness needs of the University community. Campus Recreation maintains several facilities around campus to help students stay active. In addition to the Rams Head Recreation Center and the Student Recreation Center, there is an indoor and outdoor pool, a number of outdoor courts for tennis, basketball, volleyball and paddle tennis, and lighted fields for sport club practices/matches and team intramural sports. Students have about 50 sport clubs and approximately 35 intramural sports for men’s, women’s, and co-rec teams. Campus Recreation has a unique dual reporting structure in which it reports to both Student Affairs and the Department of Exercise and Sport Science via the Campus Recreation Administrative Board.
Position Summary
This posting is for two (2) Sport Programs Coordinator positions. By applying, applicants will be considered for both vacancies.
The Sport Programs Coordinator provides leadership and advisement to an intentional, diverse, recreational, and competitive sports program comprised of Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs. Sport Programs houses approximately 50 student organizations with over 1,700 sport club members and offers approximately 35 intramural sports programs with approximately 5,500 unique participants annually. The Coordinator actively supervises and mentors student employees and student leaders to create safe, inclusive, and accessible recreational environments for the University community. The primary purpose of the position is to provide support for the Assistant Director and Senior Assistant Director of Sport Programs in the administration of Sport Programs through direct interaction with students to enhance their academic and learning experience outside of the classroom setting. The Coordinator manages student employees, including the hiring, training, and day-to-day managerial duties, offers leadership development opportunities, maintains and updates records, policies, and procedures, provides student organization advisement, plans and implements programming to participants and provides programming support, and provides facility and event operations and management support to Campus Recreation.
The position reports to the Assistant Director of Sport Programs.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* One year of work-related experience (can include graduate school or post-graduate internships), ideally in a higher education and campus recreation environment.
* Programming and administrative experience with related program administration in Intramural Sports and/or Sport Clubs.
* Knowledge and familiarity with typical Campus Recreation policies and procedures related to intramural sports and sport clubs programming
* Ability to maintain Sport Programs databases, schedules, and reports.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Recreation, Exercise and Sports Science, Physical Education, Sports Management, or related field. All degrees must be from an appropriately accredited institution.
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience in events management, facility scheduling, risk management, and fiscal management.
* Demonstrated ability to supervise professional and student staff, and effective motivational leadership and supervision of student participants and staff.
* Ability to utilize technology in the delivery of student programs
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate, develop partnerships and work effectively as a member of a fast-paced, results-oriented team
* Ability and willingness to promote a collaborative work environment and build relationships with departmental staff and campus colleagues.
* Current First Aid and CPR/AED Certification or ability to attain upon employment.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
