Essential Job Duties
The College Research Office (CRO) must approve every proposal prior to submission to the granting agency. As the Pre-Award Sponsored Project Specialist you will be an integral part of the team by providing support for the Wilson’s College of Textiles’ researchers. In this role you will assist faculty and staff in the development of proposal budgets and justifications, and work closely with the CRO director to ensure all pre-award requirements are met while adhering to all federal, state, university and sponsored agency guidelines prior to submission of proposals. 
The following duties are a few ways you will support the day to day operations of the College Research Office. 
Proposal Development and Review: 
  • Process multiple proposals simultaneously while adhering to all necessary guidelines and policies.
  • Review Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for compliance.
  • Preparing proposals with a focus on the budget and budget justifications, to be reviewed and approved by the CRO director
  • Mathematically applying the proper rules to accommodate the correct fringe rates, F&A (facilitates and administrative costs), tuition rates, and other direct costs to a proposal.
  • Communicate effectively with faculty and staff regarding proposal changes.
  • Assist with completion of supporting documentation.

Project Information Management:
  • Monitor and facilitate the PINS process for accuracy.
  • Enter required information into submission portals.
  • Notify the Director of Research Administration when the submission record is complete.

Documentation and Organization: 
  • Collect and format necessary documentation.
  • Organize pre-award documents efficiently.
Other Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support to the College Research Office, including organizing pre-award documents and assisting the CRO Director.
  • Interact with students, faculty, and support staff across the college and campus.
  • Attend departmental, college, and University meetings to stay updated on pre-award and research-related matters.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.


Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Possess the ability to write clearly and informatively, effectively present numerical data and interpret written information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word, as well as Adobe or similar software, is highly desirable.
  • Capable of working collaboratively and productively with faculty and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Ability to ensure budget accuracy in alignment with Federal, State, University, and agency policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Proven ability to work independently on multiple proposals simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in proposal processing is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity  with NC State’s online systems such as PINS, RADAR, etc.,
  • Familiarity with Grants.gov and FASTLANE/Research.gov is beneficial.
  • Understanding of Uniform Guidance, Cost Accounting Standards, as well as Federal, State, and Industry research policies and procedures is advantageous.
