Opportunity

The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is seeking a Sponsored Program Officer (SPO) to support the Office of Grants and Contracts (OGC). The Office of Sponsored Programs, under the auspices of the Office of Research, supports the development, implementation, and coordination of sponsored research at the University from proposal development to project closeout. OSP provides a full range of research administration services to support Ohio State faculty, staff, and graduate students through research administration, responsible stewardship of funds and sound management practices.

This position assists with proposal preparation and submission of proposals to funding agencies, as well as negotiates agreements that protect the interests of OSU and faculty. This position provides administrative oversight of projects to assure that compliance with sponsor guidelines and university policies are met and provides fiscal, purchasing, and reporting support needed for the successful management of the assigned constituency.

The Sponsored Program Officer (SPO) will perform the following job duties:

• Being responsible for proposal submission and project administration;
• Preparing proposal budgets and institutional assurances;
• Understanding University’s preferred positions and negotiating contracts and agreements that support institution’s position;
• Continually monitoring fiscal performance and status of required deliverable items;
• Providing guidance to Principal Investigators (PIs) and administrative staff related to sponsor requirements, approvals and expenditures;
• Ensuring compliance with sponsor and University requirements;
• Participating in and sometimes conducting in-service training for constituents, including PIs, department administrators, and OSP staff;
• Serving on OSP and University committees that are appropriate for knowledge level and tenure;
• Relative distribution of duties will vary with constituency assignment.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;
• At least one year of business experience in an administrative capacity;
• At least one year of customer service and problem-solving experience.

Desired Qualifications

• Have at least one year of experience and knowledge of federal or private agency sponsors, contract/grant regulations, procurement, and budgeting, accounting and financial management.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and the Internet.
