Job Summary
Reporting to the Senior Director for Student Accommodations & Support Services (SASS), this position serves as the primary liaison between SASS Case Managers and EWU’s existing network of student support services between the EWU Cheney and Spokane locations. The Spokane Student Support Services Manager is responsible for ensuring that students enrolled in courses at the EWU Spokane campus are connected to resources that support student success and retention by facilitating/coordinating connection to support services for students taking courses at EWU Spokane locations and collaborating with EWU Spokane faculty and staff to ensure they are aware of support services. The Spokane Student Support Services Manager will assist students in accommodations, university processes, TIX support, basic needs support, academic resources, while also serving as a primary leader in assessing and supporting students experiencing life issues and barriers to success at EWU Spokane locations. By working collaboratively with campus stakeholders, particularly departments/units integral to EWU’s coordinated care network, the Manager will work closely with the SASS Senior Director to ensure students receive appropriate accommodations and support services.
The Spokane Student Support Services Manager must be able to navigate multiple complex student cases on a concurrent basis, communicate effectively with a myriad of constituencies, prepare sensitive, high-level reports, correspondence, and briefing materials, and function autonomously with significant discretion in a dynamic environment. The position involves regularly working with students in crisis and sensitive matters and is a case manager, communicator, educator, and advocate for students. This position will work within the two databases utilized with SASS (AIM and Maxient) to keep updated and accurate case notes and case management. The Manager serves as a primary point of contact for Student Accommodations and Support Services (SASS) and Student Affairs on the EWU Spokane Campuses and is tasked with helping to create and support an inclusive and equitable learning community for all students needing accommodations and support services.
While the Spokane Student Support Services Manager will report directly to the Senior Director for Student Accommodations and Support Services, they will also be part of the broader SASS team and collaborate with SASS colleagues in supporting students to increase student success and retention. Additionally, they will build collaborative internal and external relationships while working closely with Student Affairs and University leadership to connect students in need of resources and support.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Education, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience in a higher education setting, including at least two (2) years of experience advising students or serving as a case manager. [Internship, volunteer, or related work that is commensurate with five years of professional experience, including at least one (1) year of experience advising students may substitute.]
  • Experience interpreting a variety of documentation and determining appropriate actions.
  • High level of cultural humility and experience working effectively with marginalized populations.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience developing, coordinating, and planning training.
  • Ability to learn to adapt approach in interpersonal communication based on disability-specific needs
  • Must be able to remain calm and think clearly and critically when interacting with highly distressed stakeholders. Distressed stakeholders could include individuals who are demanding, crying, yelling, and are behaving irrationally.
  • Ongoing willingness to self-monitor own personal response to emotional stress and trauma permitting them to remain objective and effective in the role

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Education, Social Work, or a related field.

    Administration and Management
    • Collaborate with the Senior Director in managing daily operations/coordination of support services for EWU Spokane location. Serve as a primary point of contact for Student Affairs and SASS at EWU Spokane locations.
    • Coordinate, develop and conduct training pertaining to services provided by Student Affairs and SASS.
    • In collaboration with the SASS team, develop, implement, and evaluate annual goals and learning objectives for SASS and assist with the development of multi-year strategic planning efforts for the Student Life unit under Student Affairs.
    • Maintain administrative reports, compile data on program activities, and coordinate assessment processes used to analyze and evaluate effectiveness of Student Affairs services, usage, and outreach.
    • Assist in maintaining and keeping the SASS’s website and social media pages current and relevant while technological resources into the SASS’s operations/programs.
    • Ensure that any updates and production of regular publications and promotional materials also include information specific to EWU Spokane locations.
    • Maintain a thorough knowledge of university policies and procedures as they relate to student accommodations and support services, communications, and university facilities. Stay current with all changes to university policies.
    • Collaborate with the SASS team to develop protocols for students in crisis and in need of additional support.
    • Coordinate with the SASS Senior Director/Director to meet requests for presentations, trainings, workshops, lectures, panels, and resources related to students in crisis and support services.
    • Work with the Senior Director/Director to develop programmatic partnerships and coalitions with academic and administrative departments as well as student and community organizations. Promote support services and serve as a point of contact for campus partners.
    • Serve as a resource in providing assistance and referral information to students, staff, and faculty regarding grievances, alleged discrimination, and harassment, in accordance with campus policies. Assist other administrative departments in responding to such complaints as needed.

    Case Management and Outreach
    • Provide support, resources, referrals, resources, and assistance with navigating university-wide operations, on-and-off campus service coordination, accommodations, problem-solving, and help for students who are impacted by traumatic, disruptive or disturbing life events (i.e. intimate partner violence, bias motivated incidents, major illness/injury, etc.)
    • Provide consultation to faculty, staff, parents, and other health care providers, for purposes of care coordination and referrals to community and private resources as appropriate.
    • Assist students with appropriate SASS intake processes to determine appropriate supports, accommodations, resources, auxiliary services, and available supplemental information to support academic success, retention, and graduation.
    • Review student submitted documentation to verify it is in accordance with university policies.
    • Ensure any notes to student cases are current within AIM and Maxient and that management of cases from referral/intake to closure is timely.
    • In consultation with Senior Director/Director, ensure implementation of accommodations as required for students with needs for academic modifications due to religious, TIX, disability, or other related needs.
    • Develop and maintain a bank of student support referral options throughout the University’s primary service area that can serve specific student needs (childcare, SNAP, housing, food assistance, mental/physical/social/spiritual health, and culturally relevant resources).
    • Build, maintain, and enhance a sense of belonging and community for students who seek additional support or are eligible for SASS supported programs.
