Position Summary
The MSU School of Social Work is dedicated to educating students for ethical, competent, responsive, and innovative social work practice, and to conducting and disseminating high quality research that improves the well-being of the most vulnerable in society. Our teaching, research, and outreach synergistically promote social justice, positive change, and solutions to the problems facing diverse individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. More than 650 students are enrolled in our CSWE-accredited BASW and MSW programs, and PhD program.
The School supports MSU’s outreach mission through off-campus, distance, and blended instructional programs that utilize technology and innovative teaching strategies. We also provide multiple opportunities for creative interdisciplinary teaching and research, community-based studies, and partnerships with government agencies and neighborhoods.
The Chance at Childhood Program Coordinator will work primarily with the Director and the Staff Attorney of the Chance at Childhood Program, along with the School of Social Work Community Programs Committee, School of Social Work and School of Law staff and administration, Community courts and agencies. This is a 9-month fixed term academic year appointment beginning April 1, 2024. Salary for this position is negotiable and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The primary functions of this role include:
- Serve as Coordinator of the Chance at Childhood Program.
- Supervise/advise social work student participants.
- Develop and deliver curriculum related to the clinic for law and social work students and other stakeholders
- Program development in partnership with the program director
- Comply with all Field Office policies and expectations regarding ongoing and regular supervision of all social work students place in the Clinic.
- Oversee all contact and activities with the CAC field liaison.
- At the direction of the Program Director, oversee CAC program partnerships and projects including but not limited to Ingham County Legal self-help Center.
- Work with the other Community Program Coordinators on inter-program issues including planning for the integrated student learning experiences.
- Participate in the Community Programs Committee and work on Committee projects, as assigned.
- At the direction of the Program Director, participate in MSU Law Clinics meetings and activities.
- At the direction of the Program Director, develop and implement research and program evaluation tools for CAC and the other Community programs.
- At the direction of the Program director, prepare and present continuing education programs related to Community Program activities and knowledge.
- Recruit students for CAC and other Community Programs.
- Follow university and government confidentiality and privacy guidelines regarding student records and agency propriety information.
- Follow all relevant University, School of Social Work, Law Clinic, and Program policies.
- Meet with the Program Director for supervision on a regular and ongoing basis.
- On a timely basis inform Program Director regarding Clinic, student, or Program-related matters or concerns.

Required Degree
Masters -Social Work
Minimum Requirements
- An MSW degree
- Two years post MSW experience, by start date.
- Experience in child welfare and children’s legal issues
- Experience/knowledge of the Michigan Family Court system and the human services delivery system.
- Demonstrated administrative and supervisory skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Three to five years post MSW experience preferred.
- License at LMSW level
- Experience supervising of staff or students/interns.
- Experience/training in interdisciplinary law and social work practice
- Professional experience interacting with the court system
- Bilingual
