PRN  - Comprehensive Neurosurgery, Trauma, and Spine Specialist

The Department of Neurosurgery, Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio is seeking a PRN faculty member at the Specialist level to help with the call coverage as needed.

Eligible candidates must be American Board Certified or American Board Eligible by the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS) and have training and expertise in General, Trauma, and Spine Neurosurgery. The candidate will be committed to working within an active academic department. The PRN faculty member will focus on clinical practice, and teaching, and obtain and maintain a Texas Medical License. The Department of Neurosurgery’s mission is to foster the education, training, and development of future neurological surgeons, to generate new knowledge through innovative research and clinical trials that impact health care and improve lives, and to provide compassionate, competent neurosurgical care to our community. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct quality patient care in accordance with your clinical credentials at UT and other sites where the department is contractually obligated to provide those services.  
  • Clinical schedules are based on agreed-upon effort, and availability of faculty working PRN, and are subject to the department's needs.
  • Successful candidate will perform comprehensive general neurosurgical and spine trauma call coverage appropriate for your level of experience and training. Call responsibilities are subject to change but are currently taken a week at a time.
  • Academic efforts to grow a vibrant and thriving Neurosurgical practice are highly valued. This is a core mission effort of our group. Faculty are encouraged to assist neurosurgical residents with cases as appropriate, conduct teaching as needed, and mentor as suitable and approved.
  • Academic activity to include submission of papers, book chapters, and abstracts to regional or national meetings; development of a local, regional, national, and international reputation is encouraged; presentations at regional or national meetings; active participation in organizations at a regional or national level with an average of one to two such activities a year within budgetary constraints and subject to administrative approvals.
