Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is seeking two part-time Dance Accompanist Specialist! In collaboration with the course instructor, provides musical accompaniment that enhances and supports the rhythmic and qualitative characteristics of class material. Provides professional expertise on the maintenance and acquisition of instruments.  Responsible for storage of all instruments used in class. 


Summary of Responsibilities

  • Provides professional expertise on the maintenance and acquisition of instruments. Stores all instruments used in various classes as needed.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
  • Provides musical accompaniment in support of the rhythmic and qualitative characteristics of class material. May serve as an assistant accompanist or musician for departmental rehearsals, performances, guest instructors and choreographers.
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate's degree in a closely related field plus one year of experience related to the Summary of Duties or any combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling three years.
Preferred Qualifications:
An advanced degree in a related field is preferred. Candidates must audition for the position and demonstrate the ability to provide musical accompaniment that supports and enhances the rhythmic and qualitative characteristics of class content. 


Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

Knowledge    

  • Previous experience accompanying for Ballet, Modern, or World Dance classes.
  • Knowledge of classical repertory.
  • Knowledge of terminology used in technique classes.
Skills    
  • Skilled in the musical styles and instruments that support the specific dance class.
Abilities    
  • Ability to provide musical accompaniment that supports and enhances the rhythmic and qualitative characteristics of class content.
  • Ability to play a wide range of styles with an ability to improvise and provide musical accompaniment that supports and enhances the rhythmic and qualitative characteristics of class movement content.
