Love and Communication Lab – Special Projects Leader Position

Job Description

We are seeking a Special Projects Leader to start in January 2024. The Special Projects Leader role is a renewable, semester-long (January-May) commitment. The Special Projects Leader must be a current research assistant in the Love and Communication Lab and is hired for tasks uniquely completed in their capacity as Special Projects Leader. These tasks are expected to require 2-4 hours of work per week above and beyond time contributed to ongoing research projects. Tasks are flexible and involve skilled activities, per the candidate’s abilities, that are not expected of other research assistants. Such activities may include any of the following:

  • Managing the lab website, loveandcommunicationlab.com (e.g., writing blog posts on behalf of the lab)
  • Coordinating data collection for recruitment-intensive projects
  • Coding research tasks (e.g., coding an Affect Misattribution Procedure in Inquisit)
  • Creating graphic design projects for the lab (e.g., a lab logo)
  • Conducting advanced data analyses and creating data visualizations
  • Establishing a social media presence for the lab to better disseminate lab findings

The Special Projects Leader is paid the minimum wage established by the city of San Francisco, CA. As of October 7, 2023, this wage is $18.07/hr.

Eligibility Requirements

  • You must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at the University of San Francisco
  • You must be an active, returning research assistant in the Love and Communication Lab. A call for applications to the (volunteer) research assistant position is posted publicly and emailed to students in the Department of Psychology every year, generally in October.
  • You must show persistence, attention to detail, conscientiousness, initiative, reliability, and teamwork
  • Students eligible for Federal Work Study are especially encouraged to apply for this role.
