Job Description

Sun Devil Athletics seeks a Special Assistant to Athletic Administrator- Football Operations who, under administrative direction, assists the Director of Football Operations, providing resources, support, and coordination in the overall planning and implementation of day-to-day operations of the football program. Reports to the Director of Football Operations. Ensures compliance with the rules and regulations of NCAA and Pac-12, as well as the policies and procedures of the department, the university, and the Arizona Board of Regents.

$42,000 - $45,000 per year; DOE


Essential Duties

  • Assists Director of Football Operations with day-to-day operations of the football program.
  • Represents ASU Football and serves as liaison between the football program and related contacts within and outside of the University community to include coaching staff, student athletes, SDA staff, alumni, youth league organizations, in order to facilitate programs.
  • Assists with coordination of team travel, on-campus recruiting and supervising game day procedures for home games.
  • Assists the Head Coach, Assistant Coaches and Student Athletes in community service opportunities and appearances. 
  • Collaborates with football staff members to plan and coordinate various team events, as well as recruiting weekends, unofficial visits and logistical operations for official visits for prospective student athletes and their families.
  • Promotes ASU, Sun Devil Athletics and Sun Devil Football with a positive image by participating in community and professional organizations.
  • Assists with fundraising events when necessary and in conjunction with the Sun Devil Club, including assisting with the planning and coordination of visits for potential donors and guests visiting Tempe.
  • Assists in the management and development of departmental budget; tracks and reports expenses; assists in the processing of various approved expenses.
  • Develops, updates and distributes departmental manuals, handbooks, and policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.
  • Assists in the hiring, supervising and monitoring the performance of student workers and graduate assistants.
  • Assists in planning and organizing summer camps and clinics.
  • Collaborates with SDA and ASU departments to meet the goals and objectives of the Football program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and one (1) year experience in a related field; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

  • Experience in a NCAA D1 college or professional football office (1 year).

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (50%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (35%)
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds (15%)
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions
  • Operates a motor vehicle
  • Required to travel with the team
  • Hours are TBD with extended hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays. 
  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to:  computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals
  • General supervision received from the Director of Football Operations.
