The Special Advisor will work within New York University's Division of Student Affairs and Global Spiritual Life to connect the important work of Global Inclusion Diversity Equity Belonging and Access (Global IDBEA) as it relates to students from religious and spiritual communities on campus be they Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh or of any other religion, religious background or students who may not be affiliated with a particular religious background or faith tradition but who may be seeking support or resources. The Special Advisor, Spiritual Life Programming and Anti-Discrimination supports the Global IDBEA work headed by the Office of Global Inclusion, Diversity, and Strategic Innovation (OGI) in its efforts to advance a shared understanding of NYU’s values. The Special Advisor will work closely with university senior and executive leadership on Spiritual Life Programming that promotes NYU's values regarding Spiritual Life and offers insight and with partners to provide relevant guidance on issues of religious inclusion and anti-discrimination. They will also liaise with OGI and the University’s Global Inclusion Officers Council to align the work across the University and with faculty, staff, and students across the university to promote affirmative programming and best practices and work closely with the Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) to ensure alignment with all practices related to preventing religious discrimination.



Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in Education, Public Policy, Religions Studies, Communications, or related field.
Required Experience:
5+ years of relevant experience in an academic or corporate environment or equivalent combination.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills, along with an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of constituencies within the university and beyond. Strong leadership skills and ability to be an effective community builder. Knowledge of diverse religious and spiritual traditions. Advanced understanding of how universities function. Familiarity with working with Offices of Equal Opportunity and/or related entities with regards to legal issues facing universities around discrimination, hate speech, etc. as well as university principles surrounding academic freedom and student activism, and a deep understanding of intersectionality and intersectional issues.
