Job Summary:

The Space Management Director is responsible for directing and delegating work and projects to the Space Management Office. This position is critical in fostering innovative solutions for facilities planning for the university. This position also manages campus owned space allocation process, including classroom management, to utilize and maximize space usage in various facilities and buildings. This position serves as the key contact to internal and external stakeholders for business strategies and development objectives.
The Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) is a full-spectrum service organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of the UW-Madison campus in support of the university's education, research, and outreach activities. FP&M works behind the scenes to coordinate campus planning, manage design and construction, maintain and operate buildings and grounds, supply utility services, ensure health and safety, and provide parking and transportation services.


Responsibilities:
Develops budget and policy and provides leadership for the university on physical development projects in support of efficient and effective institutional capital facilities planning initiatives. Participates in a leadership role in the development of the biennial capital development plan.
  • 25% Develops and directs plans of one or multiple facilities or projects to foster innovative solutions for facilities planning for the university
  • 15% Serves as a key liaison to internal and external stakeholders to maintain strategic business relationships that foster development objectives
  • 15% Develops, executes, and utilizes strategic planning analysis and research to determine long term institutional needs and develop sustainable solutions
  • 10% Develops operating policies and procedures to comply with facilities planning regulations, best practices, and institutional objectives
  • 10% Develops and audits the program budget
  • 10% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 5% Directs, coordinates, and creates space management presentations communicating planning principles and priorities
  • 10% Manages the university's owned space allocation process

Education:

Qualifications:

A minimum of 7 years of related experience required
Experience working in a complex organization and supervising multiple staff required
Academic/classroom space management experience preferred.


License/Certification:

Preferred
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
