Description of Work Unit
Agricultural research in southwestern Colorado began at the San Juan Basin Research Center near Hesperus in 1921. The major emphasis was to identify crop species and varieties adapted to the high altitudes of southwestern Colorado. The crops grown included grasses, clovers, alfalfa, field peas, corn, potatoes, dry beans, sugar beets, small grains, and vegetables. Research was conducted on both irrigated and dryland sites. The present 158 acre farm located 15 miles north of Cortez on County Road Z was purchased by the State Board of Agriculture in 1981.
The Southwestern Colorado Research Center is part of a network of 8 research centers (9 sites) throughout the state.
Position Summary
Temporary or Special part-time or full-time Research Associate I positions may become available throughout the year in Southwestern Research Center in Yellow Jacket, CO.
Required Job Qualifications
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent specialized experience and/or training. Additional required qualifications, rank and salary determined by specific position to be filled.
Level I is an entry-level position for individuals with a bachelor’s degree or commensurate specialized experience in lieu of academic degree on a year-by-year basis and/or training and some professional experience.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the start date of position; The center will not provide visa sponsorship or cover related costs for these positions.
