Description
Interns (2 positions) will conduct wildlife research and assist Game, Fish, and Parks staff and a graduate student in collecting radiotelemetry data for monitoring Merriam's wild turkeys in Gregory County South Dakota. Positions will start around January 1, 2023. Interns will bait, trap, and radiomark wild turkeys. Following capture, student interns will track survival and also determine cause-specific mortality of wild turkeys. Student interns will also mark nests and count poults of radiomarked hens. Maintenance of traps, equipment, data entry, and office assistance will also be required. Intern may be working long and variable hours in adverse conditions. Applicants must be in good physical condition, possess valid driver’s license, and be able to use trucks and ATVs under off-road conditions. Work vehicle and equipment provided.
Qualifications
In addition, coursework in human dimensions training, wildlife management and techniques, and ornithology is desired. Experience with radio-telemetry equipment will be desirable.
