Job Duties
The Sound Designer/Collaborative Musician position is a collaborative, dynamic, and student-centered position that professionally serves the East Carolina University School of Theatre and Dance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
45% Production Responsibilities
Serve as a Sound Designer and Sound Technician for SOTD productions, including the ECU/Loessin Playhouse and student performances.
20% Teaching Responsibilities
Teach Sound Design courses to Design and Production Majors and Minors.
35% Collaborative Musician
Serve as musical accompanist for Dance classes.
This position is imperative to support our rigorous academic training for our Dance and Theatre students and presenting professional-level productions to the ECU community and greater Eastern North Carolina region through our ECU/Loessin Playhouse Series. This position serves a dual role of serving as a Sound Design, Sound Technician, and Dance & Musical Theatre Musical Accompanist for our unit. These roles provide a required instructional component for our School. The position provides critical EHRA non-teaching services to three vital, mission-related specific units of the School of Theatre and Dance – BFA Dance Performance degree, BFA Musical Theatre degree, and to the co-curricular production mission for the SOTD’s ECU/Loessin Playhouse and Dance Theatre; as well as, teaching essential Sound design content to our Design and Production Majors and Minors.
Minimum Education/Experience
Master of Fine Arts degree in Sound Design is required.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Some experience as a Collaborative Musician preferred. Additional desirable skills include a background in music improvisation, music technologies and software, and percussion skills.
