Summary: Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Architecture, the Solutions Architect is a highly technical individual with strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to knowledgably and creatively design, develop, and deploy enterprise systems with high complexity across University computing, cloud, and networking environments.

Required Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum three years professional experience demonstrating the following:
  • Expertise in designing, implementing, and managing complex computing and/or network solutions.
  • Expertise with complex IT-related infrastructure, including but not limited to: servers, storage, system applications, network/telecommunications infrastructure, data center operations, backups, and cloud-based environments.
  • Experience working with public cloud architecture.
  • Experience migrating from on-premise to public cloud infrastructure.
  • Must possess a high degree of proficiency and integrity relative to information security as well as broad knowledge of applicable data security/privacy practices and laws.
  • Technical skills including an ability to understand existing hardware and software systems, emerging technologies, and best practices in applying procedures, tools and methods.
  • Ability to guide and to facilitate creative thinking and innovation across the University to enhance organizational capability and agility.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and time spent outside of comfort zone acquiring new skills.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced written and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as an active contributor to small to large technical teams.
  • Dynamic environment with shifting roles and responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • Advanced degree or technical certification in relevant area of expertise. 
  • Higher education systems knowledge and experience driving technical innovation.
  • Experience with container platforms.

Responsibilities – Essential Functions:

  • Works closely with the Director of Enterprise Architecture to research, identify, select, and test emerging technologies and ensure proposed and existing solutions are aligned with goals and objectives.
  • Participates in the evaluation and/or selection of solutions or products, including requirements definition, vendor and product evaluations.
  • Applies strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills across a wide array of systems and situations, including those which may be unfamiliar, in order to address critical issues.
  • Works autonomously, project goals will be communicated in solution or project goal terms.
  • Provides expertise through knowledge in the area of specialization and acts as an escalation point for System and Network engineers.
  • Collaborates with colleagues, customers, vendors, and other parties to understand and develop architectural solutions across the enterprise.
  • Understands and explains the interactions between systems, applications, and services within the environment, and evaluates the impact of changes or additions to the environment.
  • Ensures that all work and changes are performed in such a way as to minimize disruptions to University community.
  • Develops a sound understanding of existing systems and processes, their strengths and limitations, and the current and future needs of the environment in which they exist. Provides vision on how they may be improved and developed.
  • Creates documentation that effectively shows integration of existing systems and creates support documentation for System and Network Engineers to use for operational support.
  • Learns continuously, staying on top of industry trends and new technologies.
  • Demonstrates Legal and ethical compliance.
  • Performs other duties as requested or assigned by the Director of Enterprise Architecture.

Salary: $85,000 – $95,000; commensurate with experience
