Job Summary
This posting will be filled as a SSS I or SSS II dependent on the finalist’s qualifications. The essential duties, preferred education, and so on are the same for both SSSI and SSS II, but with the expectation of greater experience, efficiency, and independence for level II.
Software Systems Specialist I: Deliver IT services in person and remotely (see the Essential duties and responsibilities) with high personal integrity, customer service, and a security mindset. Being willing to learn on the job and work as part of a small team are important as current technical skill sets.
Software Systems Specialist II: Same as level I, with greater experience, efficiency, and independence.
Minimum Education and Experience
Software Systems Specialist I:
Associate’s degree in a related field or equivalent IT certifications or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Software Systems Specialist II:
Associate’s degree in a related field or equivalent IT certifications with 2 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Preferred Education and Experience
Bachelor of Arts/Science in a relevant field, and hands-on experience in customer-facing IT and technical problem solving. Certifications that are acceptable as equivalent to the Associates degree: CompTIA certs (such as A+ or Security+), Google IT support, Microsoft 365 certified fundamentals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Software Systems Specialist I: Provides desktop support and other IT related services, including audio-visual support for in person and hybrid events. Administers user and group accounts. Performs routine backup of system and data files. Provides first tier computer support for desktop and server issues, escalating more complex problems to senior technical staff. Assign more complex problems to appropriate levels. Occasional evening or weekend hours will be required for event support.
Software Systems Specialist II: Level II Specialist expected to carry out level I duties, a) with greater experience, efficiency, and independence, plus b) help troubleshoot our current practices, research best-practices, and make recommendations for changes, and c) provide user-facing guidance such as small how-to guides.
