Coordinate computer technology plans with the College of Arts and Sciences and other university units such as UW-IT.

As one of the two professional staff in a diverse computing environment, the Software Engineer will play a central role in shaping our computing environment, by proposing new computing initiatives and upgrades, as well as general system administration. The computing staff will together provide the technical support required by the Department. Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, engineering or related field; at least 4 years of system administration experience in a multi-platform environment (Windows/Linux/Macintosh); excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ability to work with people with a wide range of computing expertise.

Equivalent education/experience may be substituted for all of the requirements except when there are legal requirements, such as license/certification/registration.

Desired Qualifications:
Software development skills are strongly desired. Experience with mathematical document preparation, including LaTeX, and experience with mathematical software are helpful.

Conditions of Employment:
Willingness to occasionally work outside regular hours to ensure continuous system operation.

Application Process:
The application process for UW positions may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.  These assessments may include Work Authorization, Cover Letter and/or others.  Any assessments that you need to complete will appear on your screen as soon as you select “Apply to this position”. Once you begin an assessment, it must be completed at that time; if you do not complete the assessment you will be prompted to do so the next time you access your “My Jobs” page. If you select to take it later, it will appear on your "My Jobs" page to take when you are ready. Please note that your application will not be reviewed, and you will not be considered for this position until all required assessments have been completed.
